i know there is a free avast for mac but if i put in the internet security activation will it turn into the upgraded internet security for mac?

You need to use the Avast license file on a Windows PC running Avast Free or Antivirus Pro, to get the Internet Security upgrade. For macOS, there is no Paid-tier - only Avast Free Mac Security.
