I believe the Avast signature only appears in emails sent or received via a email client, such as Thunderbird or Outlook (not webmail, though).

No, avast can insert it in webmail as that goes through the web shield not the mail shield. That was introduced a few program updates ago and there were many complaints about it being inserted into web mail.

Since it had never been in web mail when people started seeing it they wanted a way to disable it as disabling it in the mail shield didn't work.  That is where the new setting was introduced in the avastUI > settings > General, so users didn't have to disable it from two different locations.

I see. Thank you for correcting me. :)

I just tested it by turning the signature on, rebooting and sending  a test email.
I also don't see the Avast signature.
I'll alert Avast to this topic.

@ Bob
Was that a gmail (web mail) test or another web mail service.

I don't really use web mail, whilst I do have a gmail account. I haven't compiled any emails I just use it so I can get notified about emails on my 'Google' Nexus 6P phone.

It is not important at all and if you really want avast in your signature, just set in your mail settings.

I think this is what Eddy is talking about:

No it is not even close.
In mail clients (and online mail services) you can set a custom signature.

The question here is about the Avast signature stating that you are protected by Avast.
If you not, I use a signature which is working perfectly.

That is so weird!! I do not have any of those options under my Behavior.. or custom Behavior.. It is important.. I have friends that cannot accept emails at work unless there is a verified anti virus on incoming emails.

Never heard that before!
So anyone that use a antivirus that dont have this signature feature (most AV) they can't send mail to your friends?

Those settings are under the Mail Shield

Just because a mail has a signature in it about a (possible) av was used to scan it, doesn't mean it was scanned by that (or for that matter any other av).
If your friends can't accept certain mails, they should go talk to the admin/IT department because as it seems, they don't have things setup correctly.

I can easily create a custom signature where is says "This mail was scanned with Kaspersky, avast, Eset" and dozens of other scanners, but that doesn't mean the mail was scanned by any of them.

Eddy, you are missing the point and the reason this thread was created.

I've seen it before. Some admins are rather strict.
BUT they certainly don't check for the sig (which can easily be faked), they check for several mail headers.

I think this is what Eddy is talking about:
<snip image>

Bob I don't think that was what Eddy was talking about, in most email clients it is possible to create your own custom signature (see Thunderbird setting image). But as Asyn said the headers are where they would look, but I'm sure that can be hacked.

However, the OP is talking about 'Gmail' web mail and those settings are in the Mail Shield settings and that doesn't handle webmail based emails. The OP is talking about 'Gmail' webmail and the Mail Shield settings won't work.

No Avast signature showing on outgoing emails in gmail avast free

If the OP can't get it to work using the avastUI > Settings > General > 'Enable Avast email signature' then there is a bug that needs to be squashed.

@David,
Which I've already reported to Avast. We now need to see if they respond.

Thank you all for your input.. it is appreciated. I just  want what I had... as for putting in a fake one in my signature in Gmail... that is not my style to lie or fake something. I will wait for hopefully a fix, or just email those certain friends at their home email accounts. Again, thank you all for the feedback and suggestions.

My bet is that the mails are not blocked because of a missing signature, but because the mail server where the mail is coming from.
