Title: Found something on a virus scan. What should I do?
Post by: One_Hapless_Gamer on July 10, 2017, 05:44:34 AM
Hey all.

So, it seems I'm not the only one who found something similar, but I might as well share this quickly and ask for some advice.  First of all, I have Avast Premier - not the free version of Avast.  I did a scan earlier today and had two/one item pop up.  This is the item, along with its Name and Virus info according to the Virus Chest -

"C:\Users\User1\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Burn"
Name: desktop.ini           Virus - Other:Malware-gen [Trj]

It's still in the Virus Chest, and I did a scan through it which marks it still as "Other:Malware-gen [Trj]".  The file itself is an odd one, since I never burn anything.  I also did a scan with Malwarebytes (Free) and came up clean.  A second virus scan with Avast as well as a Smart Scan marked me off as clean as well after the first scan and file isolation.  What should I do though?  Should I worry about this file?  What could this be or what could it have done, if possible to answer?

Any insight would be appreciated.
