Title: I want to get back my password from .db files
Post by: Mrcubix on July 20, 2017, 01:07:04 AM
1 day ago, i've got an windows problem  and i needed to refresh this one, but i lost all the avast stored password.

I made some research, and i found that my password data was saved in %Appdata% from windows.old
Now, i have got 4 .db files, and i want to use them to get back all my password.

How should i need to do to get back all my passwords from these files?

Thank for those who'll help me

Not possible to do it that way as the passwords are store encrypted.

- Use the backup, if you have created one
- Use the synchronization option if you had that enabled
- Use the recovery link in your email

I haven't activated the synchronisation because before the problem i didn't discovered this one.
I haven't got any backup, only computer one.

What did i need to do with email recovery method?

Eh, a good start would be reading the mail.

Well, when starting avast passwords you are send a mail with a link to recover the password(s).

As you can't use any of the three options I mentioned, you are out of luck and need to start from scratch.

So well, I've just received the email, but when i type the ancient main password, that doesn't work and an red square appeared like if i put the wrong main password

If you have those files then you can just copy them to exactly same location within AppData folder as you have found it in windows.old
If you have changed user name then you can just shuffle the path by checking user name in the original path.
If you were logged in Avast with my avast account on old installation then you should be logged in with the same account on new one

If avast is blocking you from creating folders in AppData just temporarily disable self defense module in Avast->Settings->Troubleshooting

Once you are done, just restart AvastUI and Avast service or just reboot computer and your passwords should be back.
