Hi CNPC...

I'm glad you like it :) Although, I'm pretty happy with 4.6....don't see any immediate need to upgrade.

If you're using XP, it might be worth doing the update if only because of the enhanced performance of the Standard Shield.

In theory, your computer should e.g. boot faster with 4.7 than with 4.6.

v4.7 feels that much quicker for me. Great work :)

Vlk, will avast consider integrating something such as Process Guard into the software? Enhanced behaviour blocker? These are things I think are becoming primrary concerns for users- especially with the growth of rootkit technology.

It's definitely true.

New avast! 4.7 is very lighter than ever before, my computer boots faster, applications load so fast like there's no an antivirus is working there, no slowdown, avast! 4.7 is truely unobtrusive, great!!!  ;D

I would also like to chime in on this thread as I am extremely please with the 4.7 release. I am running Windows 2000 Pro SP4 UR1 and I also notice that it runs a lot lighter and applications start and perform better as a whole and it does seem less obtrusive then with 4.6 releases. It also seems to take 5mb+ less memory then before which is excellent, most notably with Web Shield. It seems to better manage it's use of memory.

Cheers!

I too, since upgrading to 4.7, am booting up faster.  That's an improvement I sure can get used to.  Thanks, developers!   :)  I'm new to this product and really am enjoying the easy user interface.  Updates beautifully, upgrades over last version just fine, and all features are working "as advertised".

Just upgraded my copy of Avast from 4.6.763 to 4.7.817.  I usually don't upgrade right away until I see that no one is having any problems with the new version. But since the past 3 upgrades there were no problems, when I booted up my PC and saw the 'green pop-up' window announcing a newer version of avast, I allowed it to download and install.  Took maybe 7 or 8 minutes (on DSL lite).  Everything seemed to go fine. It said it needed to reboot my PC so I let it reboot.

When it came up, I told Zone Alarm Pro to allow the new modules access and avast checked for more updates.  After that, I saw a 'red disabled' (http://www.brunswickme.org/dpw/images/nosymbol15.gif) symbol over avast's icon on my system tray.  Opening avast, I saw no modules enabled.  I couldn't enable anything! I tried a manual scan of files and that started fine.  Not panicking, I remembered that sometimes new installations need a second reboot.  I rebooted again and all is well now.

Just thought I'd share that in case anyone else has a similar problem.  :)

I'm using Win XP ProSP2 and are really pleased with the new program release 4.7.817 . Never really had any slow boot or resource hog problems . This version is  definitely a lot perkier in both those areas though.  ;D
Nice work ALWIL !

Hi Vlk...

A pleasant surprise :) I went ahead and took your advice and downloaded the update to the new version and I have to agree with the other posters, there is indeed a slightly shorter boot up and program execution time noticed on my system. However, what really has caught my eye is how web pages seem to snap up a lot quicker (I have a dial-up connection.) I'm usually leery of "program updates and enhancements" but it paid off this time. A "job well done" to all the staff at Alwil! 8)

Best Regards...

(Postscript.....looks like I spoke too soon....it had completely messed up my internet connection, I had to uninstall it to get my connection back to normal. Perhaps the time in beta should have been longer :( )

Thanks, Rick F, for sharing that information. That may indeed help someone.

By the way, if you really want to use IE, you should upgrade to IE6 as it is a lot safer than IE5.5 though not as safe as it could be. My old computer, sitting on my other desk, is still running W98SE and IE6 runs just fine on it.
