Title: xp not able to re-register
Post by: REDACTED on July 31, 2017, 11:07:12 PM
I would like to rid the x over my avast icon. Avast will not allow me to re-register.
My xp is sp2 not sp3. Can I update to V 17 on XP SP2?
Back when I tried to update Sp3 didn't like my network card, took out my mouse and printer.
I am using Avast V11 Definitions 17731-2 So I see that I am getting the latest definitions, but it would be nice to loose the red X in the system tray.
Thanks for any information!

Short answer no, it requires you have SP3 and your CPU must support the SSE2 Instruction set.

Registration is history, see: https://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus

Thank you, Avast removed that red X.
So long as Avast lets me update VD's and keeps me protected,
I am happy with them!
So nice to not be nagged like avg used to do!

So I DO have SS1 and 2 on this old XP box.
But NO SP3 update for XP.
my report is
AMD Athalon-64 FX-53 Socket 939
Core speed 2411.9 MHz
Instructions sets   MMX (+), 3DNow! (+), SSE, SSE2, x86-64

Is Avast 17 open to no SP3?
And what does SP3 do anyway?
I see that Avast still wants me to register after 28 days.
Thanks for answering my questions!
