Probably just a glitch, but I had to close the GUI manually after the restart.

Edit: Typo.

I frankly don't like popups that are displayed in the middle of the screen, potentially being mistakenly clicked and that stay there in your face. Whole purpose of antiviruses is to protect you without interruption. It's why I loved popups till now, appearing above taskbar, small popup just to let me know why EXE I just downloade is not accessible/existing anymore. I loved old avast! 4.x detection popup line appearing over taskbar for each file and if there were 15 detections, they'd just nicely stack. In yellow and red to show something bad happened, but you're fine. I most certainly don't like it how AVG shows popups and I certainly don't like the direction where avast! popups are now heading. What was wrong with existing method? We asked for improvements that never happened and with them it would be perfect. Now it's all gone for these massive popups across entire freaking screen.

<snip>

Snap +1
If I, the user move a dialogue/alert window/popup to the edge of my screen, I expect it to stay there the next time it pops up. This has been a convention with MS windows for years

As RejZoR mentions, it is effectively stealing focus making any active button on that window live and likely to clicked accidentally, we all aren't touch typists, but pecking away at the keyboard.  The toaster popup was by far the the least intrusive (but noticeable) to the user.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that the the malware, etc. has already been stopped so the in your face urgency of the popup is I believe over the top, excuse the pun.

I agree with Boris and David,

When Avast showed us the new detection dialog, we were already afraid that this would happen.

Greetz, Red.

( Attached a screenshot from a different detection dialog, shown to us by Avast )

New dialogs for malware detections
Found two bugs...
1. The dialog can only be closed manually (popup settings don't work).
2. "Show last popup" in system tray doesn't work anymore.

The new Web Shield page injection is also going to be annoying. Imagine you're on a webpage and just some content on it is malicious (or FP). With old popup, you'd just get link blocked and popup displayed on desktop, separately. Now, this "popup" inside browser will take over entire webpage. Now, if it's whole webpage that's blocked, fine, no harm, but if it's scenario as I've mentioned, it's annoying to lose access to whole webpage because you block just one link on it, but you also have to show a popup across whole page to the user...

I really do hate this change for changes sake, this is just another pain in the rear with an in your face popup requiring manual intervention.

I suppose having effectively abandoned the popup settings, the 'show last popup' is redundant as the popup is in your face forever, plenty of time to go have your lunch, come back and read it.

It used to be that avast was the most configurable AV around, now I'm not so sure.

My Little Windows 7 Sp1 Intel Atom PC, can't even hardly rez the standard ui, not sure how it will do with 17.6 and Full Screen protection dialogs, gonna have to get it on there to see in a few minutes

I know my big Windows 10 8 Core Desktop can probably, but also don't like that, as why a full screen, why can't it stick to taskbar notification like it has been for years?  Why change something for the sake of change?

Yes Dave, I'm no fan of this new sticky dialog approach either.

Yes why change the alert popups for infected item for Local file shield and Webshield and Behavior shield?   Change for Change Sake?  The full screen in your face popups is just gonna cause older folks to be alarmed, or click something wrong I think when it popups

Been using Avast since 2006, and not so sure on Avast direction lately

New detection dialogue does not allow me to choose what to do when set to ask; is this correct behavior?
It only asks "Move to chest" and "Ignore", no "Delete" or "Repair" available.

Is it just me or is Avast become more like AVG ???
I thought that Avast purchased AVG not the other way around.
Sorry, don't mean to ruffle any ones feathers but we seem to be loosing some of the good
things that were part of the Avast UI.

+1
Not only the good things, but those that made Avast Unique.

Aside from being highly configurable for the user, hell if I had wanted AVG, I would have gone back there or not left over 14 years ago.

Can someone work on this so it's easier to see how the update is progressing.
Color choices are terrible.

Maybe someone doesn't realize that in the US, many of the Avast users jumped ship from AVG.
Making Avast more like AVG is going in the wrong direction.

Agrees Avast going more like AVG is definitely the wrong direction, I jumped ship from AVG back in late 2005, briefly tried out Windows Live One care when it first came out, then been mostly on Avast Free since I learned of it, and jumped to that way back when.     On the Fence on the changes right now, not even sure if I did abandon ship now what i'd even use, on limited budget so paying for a program not sure on lol.

Mind you my test PC (Windows 7 SP1 Desktop) I can't even get the threat alert to popup lol, so I don't know if it's a security setting in new home gateway modem (cable modem, router, wifi, and phone emta all I one) or what, but when I try eicar test file on that one, (download version) I get page cannot be displayed lol, so far I haven't even personally seen the new threat alert, except one time on that system

One File alert popped up as normal corner alert,  then did the second test on my main Desktop for a change since upstairs machine keeps saying page cannot be displayed when I try the same test.  (besides doing clean install of this PC probably when Fall Creators update comes)   This is the kinda popup I cannot stand,  Whats wrong with using the same detection alert in the right corner just above the taskbar?

Seems you're still on "Legacy licensing", it's fixed in "Alpha licensing".
