Title: Windows backup restore 7 not working with Avast since upgrade
Post by: REDACTED on August 17, 2017, 10:32:08 AM
Running Windows 10, using standard Windows 7 backup/restore to keep system backups which has recently simply stopped working.  Get a Windows error that means nothing to anybody who speaks English.  If I disable AVAST it works fine.  Anybody got any ideas?

I have been using that on my win10 laptop and win7 netbook, but I use the create system image though.

Have you tried just disabling the avast self-defence module in the AvastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting section ?

Using Image Backup on a regular basis on Windows 10 without problems.
Avast's self defense is on. Are you getting an error code ??? The code would help since it's universal.
You could also use Google Translate to translate the error message. It might help. :)

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have tried disabling the protection, no better I am afraid.  I get windows error 0x81000037: Windows Backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up, I have tried deleting the reparse points as suggested but this makes difference but when I disable Avast its works as expected.  I have used backup and restore with Avast for years with no problems but since the last Windows upgrade a couple of weeks ago they just now don't get on

See if this helps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/973455/windows-backup-or-restore-errors-0x80070001--0x81000037--or-0x80070003#workaroundissue12
The only other recommendation I've found is to, in deed, disable your AV while the backup is in progress.
