Title: Avast causes slow boot and black screen
Post by: REDACTED on August 25, 2017, 11:49:57 AM
I have installed Avast free then my PC is slowed down so much at boot with a black screen after Welcome screen.
I have run into this problem many times and many years ago (from 2013). Every time I re installed my Windows 7 and then installed Avast, it happened. By investigating the boot procedure (using Windows Performance Tools Kit from Microsoft), I'm sure it's caused by Avast. To make sure this is true, I re-installed my Windows 7 (format the whole HDD), then get updates from Microsoft, installed all necessary softwares. Everything is fine. Just right after I installed Avast, it happens.
Watch the video carefully: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAPfVzApI3g

All settings are default. I just install File system shield, Behavior shield and Web shield.

Feel free to get more information from me.

I use the latest version 17.5.2303 with only 3 shields installed, Windows 7 pro 64 bit SP1
I use MalwareBytes but just free version (Real time protection is disabled by default of this version, it won't start at Windows), no others security sofwares
The HDD is about 80-100% disk usage during the black screen.

Same here, but it happened only once. It was first out of 3 reboots.
Maybe it was emergency update or something.

Avast Free 17.5.2303
Windows 7 x86

after a few days, It seems that it still happens, about 50% of the boot times.
I have run into this problem for 3 years. Two years ago, I installed another Win 7 on the same HDD to investigate more deeply. The second Win 7 has Avast installed and actually, it rarely has a black screen and the boot isnt really slow.
Here is the race between the two Win 7 on my laptop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxI7kgobTDg

I don't know if my files or any specific can affect. On my main Win 7, I store documents on Documents folder of Windows, Music and Videos on C:\Media folder, some programs are installed on C, some on other partition. Will Avast emergency update cause? if it's true, why black screen doesn't happen on the second Win 7?

Try: Avast GUI -> Settings -> Troubleshooting -> Load Avast services only after loading other system services

Loading Avast after other services doesn't help, at least at firts 3 boots after I change the settings.
Can I get your personal support, teamviewer or mail or something?

I have installed the new version, but it seems slower than the beta.
The black screen still happens about 50% of boots.
I have checked that exclusion contains all thing you say, load avast service after system services.
I also set the for program update "Ask when an update is available"
Do you have any suggestion?

Remove Wondershare as it is at least a PUP.

Remove Wondershare as it is at least a PUP.
It isn't causing the problem. :)
