- We now recommend scanning for hidden network threats when you first connect to a new network
- Our systray icon now shows when you have a security notification
- Improved threat detections are now more visible and more informative about threats
How to install:
1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program
2. Or you can download and install from here

Thanks for update.
- GUI opening is slower then previous version.
- Scanning files inside Virus Chest still not working.
- Detection Pop-up is now delayed from detection sound.
- Some detections are not marked as "NEW" in notification center/TRAY.
-
After updating Avast Free Anti-Virus on August 31, 2017, browsers stopped (Internet Explorer and Mozilla). I delete Avast - the browser is started. I put Avast - again the browsers do not start.
Developers have themselves fenced off from users. They can only be asked by phone on the phone...

Installed okay here. No issues with the web browsers.

working on fix
What the hell changed between beta version 17.6.2310 and the same version number of the regular release (I hate this version number remaining the same on release), that it managed to break something that wasn't broken in the 17.6.2310 beta release.
I'm only glad that I didn't update this win10 laptop as I thought this was a beta release. I only test betas on my XP Pro desktop, so I ignored the program update notification as I don't allow the Program to update automatically.
-
oh,and btw, the premier installer is the same from 18/7 (17.5)
I hope this version does something about the HUGE number of false positives and that it will actually detect REAL viruses.
I get at least once a day one of those javascript obfuscated viruses and avast lets them ALL through without so much as a warning. But god forbid I try to install a LEGITIMATE, CLEAN program, then all kinds of alarms go off, with BOGUS detections, (filerep: malware, Susp, Malware.gen. idp. generic and similar.ALL FALSE POSITIVES). I'm sick of this. avast used to be one of the best AVs around, now it's turned into crap.

I guess there is some connection problem or something.

Is it normal that Avast settings always get restored after program update? I've tried reinstalling it but it's always the same. When updating programs, settings are always getting back to default.

No, it's not normal. My settings all remained intact.

Wasn't there supposed to be a blue dot on the avast tray icon for notifications?
-
- GUI opening is slower then previous version.
GUI is really loading much slower. Showing empty dots and frames here for a few seconds too until full GUI appears. Seing these for the first time on this GUI.

Noticed the same thing.

That's actually intentional - Avast is using a new preloader for the UI, Opening the UI should be quicker, but without real data which will then load after 1-2 seconds.
Regarding Avast now offering older program version for update - should be fixed when all the CDN/servers have been updated with the latest version.
-
Thanks for the release :)

Same here also.
Already yesterday with emergency update on 17.5.2305 (avast said me need to reboot) , all settings were restored by default.
Don't know exactly since when (what version) the reset is systematically performed, but I have already made several times this observation .
An important precision :
It happens only with my winxp Sp3 , no troubles with W7 W8.1 and W10
Nb: don't know if there is a link but I can't save my settings , no more restore any file -> "file not Found", like this:

Problem solved. I had to change DNS servers from OpenDNS to Google DNS.

This should have been fixed by now without changing DNS.

only thing i noticed is UI slow, when avast opens there is no buttons, the privacy protection & so on are gone & in the middle run smart scan, it takes few sec to load the buttons, & sins old ver i have the txt NEW on Protection & privacy, just letting the team know about this small bugs i noticed

- GUI opening is slower then previous version.
Updated OK on Win10 machine, not yet attempted on Win XP SP3, settings were kept OK. Firefox, Opera, Edge browsers still run, nothing appears broken.
GUI is much much slower and spasmodic after this update. Takes 2 secs to load colour panel icons. Smart Scan kicks off but just sits there idle blank for several seconds showing no progress making you think it has hung, then single figures and suddenly 68% or something. Have not yet tried a full scan where in past progress sits at 0% for ages. Not impressed by this update visually, but guess it still gets the job done.

Read #13 for the UI explantion.

Updated avast antivirus pro with the UI all went well. The only dissapointent was a message after the update was finished that an improvement was that a ransomware protection now was included in antivirus pro which was not true. It still only included in internet security and premier.
-
GUI is opening much slower then previous version. Its like its loading everything before it displays everything as for the virus chest I haven't checked that to confirm it.
-
All OK with me but I did find this small mistake:

I've updated Avast about 1 hour ago and I have problem with Firefox won't load. I noticed there's a fix which should be already integrated by the time I updated, but still I have problems. Only with Firefox. I also got Vivaldi and K-Meleon and both run fine. I realy need Firefox as it's the main browser.
Trying to load Firefox gives me "Firefox has stopped working" dialog box with the following message: "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program".
I'm using Firefox 55.0.3 64bit. Tried fresh install and the problem persist. Both 32 and 64 bit Firefox are affected. Tried to reboot several times and no go. The only time Firefox can run is when rebooting to safe mode where avast didn't load.
BTW I'm on Win 7 SP1 64bit.

Can`t install last FREE version with offline installator. Logs attached.
Offline installation is officially no longer supported on Vista and XP because new CEF (only one bundled in offline installer because of size) is not supported there and the online installer will download the correct CEF version.

Update the VPS and try again.

Considering this two step UI opening was meant to speed up the UI loading, I never really had an issue with the UI loading, now I do. The combined duration of the two step UI appears to take much longer than before. Not only that to the user it makes it look like there is something wrong (hence the reports of something wrong).

Probably GUI open faster without data, but this is not good step how speed-up opening GUI. Looks like crap unfinished buggy software in eyes many people. Removing ads from GUI should be first step how improve loading time.
-
Updated Avast and now "save as" and "open" in Firefox, Thunderbird and Chrome won't work. Dialog boxes show up with few icons but no file names or buttons.
Is there a fix for this?

UI loads the same time as before, we just changed the way how it's displayed. before you saw just Loading spinner now you see the UI kinda flashing. Anyway we know it's slower than we would like it to be and in next version we will do some other improvements in the code to load it faster

Sorry Martin,
1. Since I wasn't experiencing any issue with the loading of the UI previously, now I have.
The loading time of the two stage loading is far greater than my previous loading.
The two stage loading looks like there is something wrong with the UI, it's a mess.
2. The issue about scanning files in the chest has found another bug.
We know (previous bug reported) if we go to the virus chest from the context menu and try to scan a file there is no scan carried out. It had been said if you happened to have the UI open before using the context menu to get to the virus chest, then it would scan.
Here is the next bug:
Testing to see if the above bug had been resolved, I opened the virus chest from the context menu and try to scan a file, nada doesn't work as before. I thought lets open the UI and see if it will now scan the file in the chest NO It Doesn't. I closed the virus chest window and the main AvastUI window is locked completely and there are two entries for avastUI.exe in the task manager.
Trying to resolve this by disabling the self-defence module, which I had to access using the tray icon context menu 'About Avast' when opened - Trouble shooting and disabled the self-defence module. That had an unexpected effect it triggered the main UI Notifications - unlocking the UI so the main UI was now accessible - I went into the notifications section I closed the notification for the disabled self-defence module. I was now able to close the main UI.
What a pain in the backside.
-
In the laptop, the program updated without any problems.
But I have also have a tablet with Avast, but everytime that I check if there's a new update available, it always says that there's no update available.
Both devices are using Windows 10.
Any suggestions?
-
Either wait or download and run the installer from the initial post.

Forum Support:
Your previous update corrected signage accuracy, but failed to fix Quick Scan scheduling. So far, I've been unable to set automatic Quick Scans, except when scheduling them on a same-day basis. However, your latest version, 17.6.3625.0, no longer allows me to schedule any automatic Quick Scans at all -- even when scheduling the scans on the same day I intend them to run. I'm hoping this malfunction will soon be fixed. Possible? Otherwise, my Avast Free Antivirus has been transformed from slowly improving to seriously flawed. Sorry.
Thanks.

I confirm that for me too the opening of the UI is longer than before, I had never noticed a time with the display "loading".
Anyway, even if you maintain that this time has not changed, many users feel a slowdown, I think that the feel of the users is important?
So,if there is no change at your eyes , why not make a comeback, when we - users - feel this flashing as a slowdown, a bug?
Pleasure to change or something else ?
Edit:Confirmed after tests between old and new version on same pc = more or less 12 sec
With old : 9s for UI to appear and only 3s with "loading"
With new : only 4s for UI to appear but 8s with "loading" (even if it appears long at our eyes , there is no change)
-
I don't know how much testing this update has been through but, if I open the interface it starts with what most of the users in this thread are claiming about. However, with my install it just hangs and eventually when I click on it again Windows reports that this program is not responding.
Avast is not exactly making me feel secure about my pc environment at the moment.
The version number for my install of Avast UI.exe is 17.6.3625.0
-
I'm saying on v17.5.2302 until the latest version is resolved, sorry Avast because you've release the latest version too soon without any further double checking before the final release.
-
All I can say about 17.6.2310 is the UI is horrible. Why would somebody change something that was already just fine ? ?
Also the mods and Avast people here kept saying the Behavior Shield Not Always Starting would be fixed on the next major release. Guess what, it still happens on XP PRO SP3 .. Maybe they meant when Avast goes to V18 ? ? ?
-
Why would somebody change something that was already just fine ? ?
I have this feeling almost always when new version arrive (especially move from almost perfect v12 to buggy v17). Old bugs not fixed and new bugs appears. It seems like Avast must release new version regularly at all cost. Beta version one day, second day stable. Just keep beta for month or more before you fix all bugs, after that is good time relase stable version. I feel like beta tester whole time.

So Damn True. :)

As mentioned by bruce_b behavior sheild still is not turned on when starting up , Windows 7 home premium, avast antivirus pro. Should have been solved with this update acording to a previus answer in this forum. Not so !
-
In my Opinion they should've squashed more bugs in latest 17.6 version and released the stable version closer to Windows 10 Fall Creators update, though I think when Avast was running version 12, there was longer beta periods and not monthly stable build releases, which in my opinion is rushed release it feels like as so many old bugs, plus new bugs being introduced with latest Avast builds
-
Couple days late and saw new version available 8/31/2017. Did a clean install using Programs and Features>reboot>avastclear.exe>safe mode as admin>run avastclear>reboot>install newest version.
Confirmed two-stage gui opening:
- Initial open results in white box, nothing inside for about 30 seconds
- Subsequent open gui 4-6 second range, see attached below:
About the same amount of time to open gui as with version 17.5 once the initial start is done.
Rescue Disk is working.
Firewall popups now say "allowed" instead of "banned" as in version 17.5. Thank you.
At least the popup notifications were not moved to center stage in this OEM version as was done in the betas before now.

UI fail to load (avast service is stop loading) after installed , and firewall component automatic deactive at first time restart , please check avast "internet security" installer......

I like the new loading of the UI. As slow as before, not slower than before. HOWEVER, the issue with the behavior shield not turning on on startup is not fixed, and you said that it was fixed in the beta. Seems the fix is not working.

Hi
After installation of the new version I got very unpleasant bugs.
1. Completely disappeared text from "Save as..." and "Open file" forms of my browsers. At least in Chrome and Firefox like
(http://savepic.net/9882975m.jpg) (http://savepic.net/9882975.htm)
moreover, I couldn't even type of filename in the textfield of those forms!
Need to say that other Save as.. or Open forms from MS Office, or other programs were not corrupted like in browsers. But maybe I have tested not all of them.
2. Adobe Acrobat Reader DC got the next GUI:
(http://savepic.net/9852252m.jpg) (http://savepic.net/9852252.htm)
3. Thinking it was trouble of Acrobat Reader tried to reinstall it. And got the next type of message:
(http://savepic.net/9871708m.jpg) (http://savepic.net/9871708.htm)
Also similar picture for GUI was noticed for my HxD - Hex editor, but after scanning by Avast its GUI restored.
After rolling back of my OS (Win 7) to the previous state all those bugs disappeared. After I performed update of Avast Premier all those mentioned bugs appeared again that proved for me that failure happened just in Avast product.
Any ideas, gentlemen how to fix this? I'm afraid of making update again, as soon as I'm nost sure that even deinstalling of Avast can return back functions corrupted with this update.
regards
Alex

Although it is not limited to this version, I'd like a warning when a "program update" is required to be a pop-up formula. When you notice, the icon on the task bar has a small "!" Mark, which is surprising. For updates that are entitled "Important", please revise to a mechanism that you notice immediately. (Automatically translated)

Cleanup got stuck at step one in the new version :(
I can confirm it too - the same happens here ???
I have the same problem. I have the separate Avast Cleanup Premium app (previously named Grimefighter) installed. Is this causing the issue with the Cleanup failing to complete within Avast Premier?
-
Hi, my first post ever to the Avast Forums, it might be related to the #2 post of this thread.
I've seen with the latest update from the other day, that when an alert comes across, I only hear the audible alert.
There is no longer a popup, a counter on the system tray, or a notification on the notification pane in the main GUI. If I download an EICAR, the only trace I can see is if I copy and paste my own file and then ends up in the Virus Chest with the above still happening.
I uninstalled using Avast Clear in Windows Safe Mode and reinstalled and it still continues to happen.
I do only use this product on an Acer Netbook 1.6 Ghz processor with 1 Gb ram on Windows 7 32bit so maybe that is the problem right there?
I'm just wondering if these are known issues and if an update is expected from these conditions.
Thank you all and have a great day!

Many have said it, but it would appear no one is listening.
The same as the size of the massive (mostly empty) main UI, no one listening there either.

Same problem as print-FV. Since install this version all Browsers with exception of IE11 cannot start:
Opera/Chrome/Firefox.
Delete AVAST and my life comes back.. :)
AVAST. ? why this rubbish.
Spend your time testing Releases not always trying to dupe us into buying extra modules.. and the effort required to service these extras
thats not what we sign up for.
said me.

Did you apply the "fix" ?

why avast didn't find a (workno.ru) program?

not change snxhk.dll, done disable self-protection :'(

Please don't post in multiple topics it won't help.
Your screenshot would appear to indicate the self-defence module is still enabled. I get the same popup if I try to change the file name without first disabling the self-defence module.

Hi!

Have you actually checked that the Base Filtering Engine is running(see attached image) ?
To see the windows services, use the Windows key+R and type services.msc that will show all services then find the Base Filtering Engine and check it is running. On my win10 laptop it is running 'Automatically'.

The easiest way to reach it is to open Services
<snip image>
I have always found that Running the services.msc command to be the quickest way to access the system services.
Since the services.msc command is common across all OSes, certainly since winXP, I have never even tried to find it in Win10 and a quick look trying to find it took way longer than running the command. In the end I had to open Settings and use the find command, not very user friendly, I still don't like windows 10
-
In Windows 10, you can get to Services from the Task Manager .. There is tab on there just for that

Unfortunately, I´ve the same problem and haven´t been able to solve it. After updating to v.17.6.2310(build 17.6.3625.0) both browsers, IE and Chrome stopped working. After uninstalling Avast, they work, after installing avast again, they stop:-(
I use WIN7Home premium. Both Chrome and IE are at the newest versions.
Please, is there any solution for this, I haven´t found any:-( Thanks alot, LR

I updated Avast Internet security to the new version yesterday and post the immediate reboot following the install got a BSOD. I have Win 10 Pro with Anniversary Update.
BSOD issue still persists and happens just after I boot up and login to Windows 10. Post rebooting in safe mode, Firefox refused to open, crashing every time I attempted to open it. :(
I uninstalled Avast and then tried re-installing it (online installer for Avast Internet Security), but right near the end of the installation, got the BSOD (Bad Pool Caller). Restarting the machine showed that the Installation was incomplete and hence removed it use avastclear in safe mode.

Also the mods and Avast people here kept saying the Behavior Shield Not Always Starting would be fixed on the next major release. Guess what, it still happens on XP PRO SP3 ..
Hi, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=208223.msg1419124#msg1419124

As mentioned by bruce_b behavior sheild still is not turned on when starting up , Windows 7 home premium, avast antivirus pro. Should have been solved with this update acording to a previus answer in this forum. Not so !

All I can say is sometime on XP PRO SP3 Behavior Shield is Turned OFF .. and at other times, when I boot up, it comes up normally, like it did the last few days. And I have not see it not be enabled on my Toshiba Laptop with Window 10 Home 64

We have been using AVAST Free for years - however this new version when installed renders Adobe PDF Reader unusable. Uninstalled AVAST and reader works fine...I have to leave AVAST uninstalled because I have to have Adobe Reader functioning.

Please start your own topic to get help on your problem. It will only get lost in this large general topic.
We'll need to know what version of Windows you're using and if you have any other security related programs installed.

Hi! After Avast Free Antivirus new (september 6) update totally blocked my all browsers (IExplore, Firefox and Google Chrome). Only system restoration helped resolve this situation. Current bugless working version of Avast Free Antivirus 17.6.2310 (build 17.5.3585.203). Automatic updating had to be disabled.

That's the problem with posting in this general and large topic. Things get lost.
Post your problem in it's own topic which makes giving help a lot easier.

As noted elsewhere, the new version causes Acrobat DC to give a partially blank interface. More seriously, it gives blank "save as" GUI interface for any attempt to save anything from any web browser, so web downloads are impossible! Win7 pro on 8 core AMD with 32 GB RAM and GeForce Titan. Better get this fixed ASAP.

Oops, looks like something is still wrong with the fix, I updated it on Thursday Sept 7th, and postponed reboot until late night, after reboot my browsers couldn't connect, however, pings and traceroutes from CMD did work fine as well as USENET readers using NNTP protocol.
After removing Avast completely, browsers did connect with no problem and system was much faster booting up and much more responsive in file management, image viewing and internet browsing.
My System's relevant features: AMD PhenonII X6, 4Gb RAM, Windows XP Pro, Zone Alarm free, Spybot SD, no proxies, 8Mbps cable internet.
-
Thanks for the update :)
Everything seems to be working fine - the only strange occurrence is that updating activated sounds while keeping all my other customized settings untouched, including my custom scans which updating sometimes wipes out. I did wait over a week to do the update after seeing the many reports of its breaking other programs.
The new GUI opening seems to me no slower than before, but it does give an impression of strangeness. It looks a bit like the icons have melted into grey sludge before they suddenly come to life. But if that is really the look Avast has decided on, it doesn't bother me.
-
I have noticed that when a scheduled scan starts the pop up reporting that the scan has finished and no viruses have been found pops up at the same time. This is confusing, does Avast actually bother scanning my PC or is it clever enough to know in advance what the results will be....

On August 5, 2017, I subscribed to your antivirus paid 500 rubles or how much they asked for a year, but yesterday the message came that the PC. not protected, while the account indicates that my key is valid until 05.08.2018., below it says that the license is over and the computer is not protected, how can I understand this ??? What kind of divorce? I did not pay for a month, but for a year. And I'm notified that the trial version is over. I ask you to understand, I have the key given you.null

Repair Avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.
-
If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Вам не напрасно предложили обратиться в русскую ветку форума. Если бы Вы послушались совета, то во-первых, Вам бы указали нужную тему: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=207108.0 . Во-вторых, не понятно зачем Вы использовали систему сообщений модераторам для какой-то жалобы на модератора.

Suggest doing a disk image first and then going ahead and updating. As you know, repair or do a clean install as per bob3160 and if neither works then restore your disk image....
-
He does not need a disk image if he has the Full Offline Installer for the older version he wants. That said, while there have been some glitches reported on 17.6.2310 most people have not had issues. My 2 computers are running it and so far, they are fine. One is a XP PRO SP3 P4 box and the other a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 10 Home 64 Bi t

We are listening and you know we are ;-) We are watching closely the feedback on this change. Yes few users complained here, we know about it and accept the feedback. But that doesn't mean that we will immediately turn them off. As first improvement we added auto close so they don't stay open forever..

That would rather depend if there is a delay before auto close, if it were immediately auto closed, what would the point be of opening them.

Avast still killing VM performance and recommending to disable hardware assisted virtualization. Only solution is to remove Avast.
Not recommended :'(

I just updated to this new version and I still have the SafeZone Browser. Didn't think that was supposed to be included in this new version.

Wish I still had it...coming soon apparently. :D Oooops...I stand corrected. It's there now anyway.

Also if i open Chest from tray icon, old appearance with broken scanning inside chest appear. After PC restart web cam shied is gone, what you doing Avast team?
Bug report:Avast popup/notifcation center detection gives wrong info what avast do with detected file.
Explanation:Today i recieved e-mail in Outlook with file marked by Avast as JS:LockyDownloader [Trj]. Popup said file was moved to virus chest. The same appeared in my notification center, but my virus chest is empty. I opened log file "EmailShield.txt" which says that file was succesfully deleted.

Why does avast always disable windows defender's periodic scanning every time avast performs a program update?

After installing the new version, my monitor is not working correctly in the administrator account. The screen is darker than in the user account. Attached are screenshots.

update throught the gui went fine as always. keep up the good work.

On Windows 10 avast doesn't do so.
It is Windows itself that does so and avast does it for the same reason(s) as has been explained in many other threads.

I downloaded and ran the Avast Clear uninstaller and reinstalled the latest version of the free version of Avast. The monitor is now working correctly.
