Same problem here.
Passive mode can't be turned off...
Repairing Avast doesn't seem to work. (Ending up with a message to uninstall Immunet.)

I use Avast in combination with Immunet.
Avast tells me to uninstall it from my system, because of a 'conflict',
but before the update, it worked flawlessly.

I hope it will be fixed soon!

It was only Beta when I checked.
Final release was anounced later and ofcourse those blind/death idiots at avast gave it the same version number  >:(

I have one the same problem with the latest update.  :o

*Avast reports that it's in passive mode, I turn passive mode off, Avast offers restart. After restart Passive mode is on. I cannot turn it off.
*Avast reports that anti-rootkit monitor if off. Clicking enable does nothing and under Troubleshooting options Enable rootkit scan at startup and enable rootkit monitor remain checked.
And every time I start my OS, Avast must restart the system ...

I have no other antivirus installed on my system and that microsoft security essential was uninstalled completely 2 years ago.

I have Windows 7 64 bit and Avast program version 17.7.2314 (build 17.7.3660.0).

EDIT: Can not also disable the antivirus. (10 minutes, 1 hour, ...).

Same issue and same steps to resolve = same result Stays in PASSIVE MODE.
I did the install but it tells me I'm in Passive Mode and nothing I do will turn it Active. Also Anti Root-Kit is disabled with same effct - I cannot enable it. I do not have Windows Security Installed nor any other AV SW. This is on my PC Win7 & 64 bit.
Did the upgrade on other PC and it is all active no issues, Same OS etc. What the heck?

Have scanned for malware, spyware = removed all, uninstalled Avast, downloaded offline install and installed clean install = issue remains the same.

Ideas to resolve?

This issue has been escalated to the Avast team.

Also, by no security software, that also includes other resident scanners such as Malwarebytes so make you mention them.

Yes the bug appears without any anti-malware software process that AVAST.

I only have AVAST running as a process.

FYI: when I try to turn Passive Mode OFF the pop-up window specifically states Microsoft Security Essentials, it has yet to identify Malwarebytes or SUPERAntiSpyware. Both existed in harmony with the previous version of Avast prior to the update on the Win7 64bit machine that has the issue And on the second Win7 64bit machine that does not have the Passive Mode issue.
SW updated Virus definitions this am and a Complete system scan And a Boot-Scan found no problems.

I haven't tried repair because Avast repair never repairs anything and never solved any problems I had with Avast.

I installed Immunet and Avast obviously detected it and it doesn't comply when I turn passive mode off.

Worked together before 17.7.2314 update as it did for user purche.

I have minimal Avast installation - web, mail and file system shield.

My printscreen is very static

I still have the same problem as everyone here with a repair done.

Avast detects a "Microsoft Security Essential" that does not exist on my machine!
I can not disable the "passive mode".
I can not turn on "anti-rootkit defense".

And I can no longer disable "Avast agent management".

Configuration: Windows 7 64 bit.

Same problem here.
i cannot turn off Passive mode.
(avast detects a Panda Antivirus 2012 on my pc but I have removed this long ago, and removed any traces from registry too).

Also, I am not able to disable avast with this new update, like TheLightgg said.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit.

Is there any news about any future patch to correct the problems ?

Or a topic to know the progress of future patches ? :)

Thx

I guess because I was online and it automatically updated?

I'm waiting for the new update but ...

I think you have to install the offline version by disabling the internet connection (before starting the installation). When the installation is complete, you must disable "automatic updates".
You can then reconnect to the internet.

Where are you getting the full off-line installation from ?

If it is an avast.com link, then you are going to get the latest version as avast doesn't offer old versions for download only the current version.

Ah, i see.
I got it from first post in here:
https://forum.avast.com/?topic=208020.0

But I'm almost sure, with a right click on the set up, it said it is version 17.6.2310.

I tried to download from here, but it got stuck in the last second of downloading:
http://www.filepuma.com/download/avast_free_antivirus_17.6.2310-16467/

and it's a different file size too I see, so maybe it's hacked?

The links on that page will 'always' result in the latest version being installed.

Notice how there is no version number in the link - http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe) - avast only delivers the latest version from the /iavs9x/ location.

Whilst the filepuma link would appear to be giving up the correct 17.6.2310 version. At the end of of the install avast may well also be checking if there is a later version.

Make sure that you are off-line before running this downloaded file, use your firewall to stop all internet connections or just switch off your modem/router.  When installed hopefully that should be the same version, now go into the avastUI > settings > update - program update - settings and set it to Manual Program Update.

Different file size in relation to what ?

ah, ok thanks.
Well, i can't seem to find a setup. As i said in that link the download stuck, and I just tried from another site, and that one stuck too!

about different size: i thought that set up in the avast link was the one I wanted, so the other that had different file size might be bad.

You're welcome.

Different sizes are going to be fairly common, for different versions, you also have to bear in mind that there is a full virus definitions database and that can also make a difference in overall file size.

I think this bug is with the usage of Base Filtering Engine for firewall, if something/existing AV or security software is currently using it ..AVAST will automatically switched to Passive mode.

I have the same issue, my "conflict" is apparently because I also run MBAM.
I'm tired of waiting for AVAST to get off their ass and fix this,
Decided that if it isn't fxed in a month from now I will cancel my subscription/license for AVAST, deinstall it and stick witth MBAM and look for another compatible anti-virus/malware product..
I'll also be recommending to my over 100+ friends who use AVAST/MBAM on my recommendation to do same.
FYI - I've worked in systems IT for over 30 years
This is not a new issue and AVAST obviously don't caree about fixing it........
