Title: Help Needed: Avast can't exit Passive Mode
Post by: REDACTED on October 06, 2017, 10:45:59 AM
Hi all,

since the latest update (Avast Free Anti Virus) I have the following issue:

I have had Kaspersky installed years ago and switchted to Avast about 4years ago. Until now I have never had problems with Avast.
After the latest update Avast only runs in Passive Mode and I can't activate normal mode.

Kaspersky is definitely uninstalled and I have also used a kaspersky removal tool and cleaned the registry. However, nothing helped.

Anyone can help me?

Cheers :)

Bug known with the latest update.
Avast detects "Microsoft Security Esserntial" that does not exist on my OS!

Avast detects a ghost antivirus ...
I suggest to the developer to change their method of detection of another antivirus based on a run process and no a detection of a system file or a parasitic registry key ...

xus3,

before posting, please (re)search.
This is already known and handled in other threads.
There is no need to start a new one about something that is already handled/mentioned.
It will only pollute this webboard and take up time/resources from those who are trying to help here.

Note that this is nothing personal, just general and it applies to many others also.

xus3, don't be sorry. I was called out by Eddy as well but I noticed he offered very little Help. This Passive Mode Issue has been escalated to a higher power so now we begin the waiting game for an update that hopefully contains the fix.
Rest assured, after major TS on my part this is a BUG that affects some WIN7 64 bit machines but not all. I did a complete scan with Avast yesterday with this issue and it found nothing so I,like you and others, await the update.
