Title: VPN blocking Outlook Express outgoing mail in Windows 7

My father started having trouble sending (receiving is fine) emaills through his Outlook Express client in Windows 7.  After disabling Avast components one by one, the emails suddenly went out when disconnecting the Secure Line.  I would appreciate instructions on which settings (or where) need updated/changed to allow his emails to pass without disconnecting VPN constantly.  Thank you for your assistance!
