Title: Run Full Virus Scan stopped working (0% complete)
Post by: REDACTED on October 13, 2017, 01:52:42 PM
Hello Avast Forum

I have encountered problem with Avast Premier, when I select Full Virus Scan, the scan stops at 0% complete for half an hour or more - any solution?

Smart Scan still works okay.

Seems that there is no version 3660.
Perform a real clean installation of the latest official release.

Well, if I select update program, the message then says:

"Already up to date (current version 17.7.2314)".

Thanks for all the replies,

How long should a Full Virus Scan take to reach 100% complete on a 400GB HDD and Core Duo, averagely speaking?

Im sure when I run this scan on previous occasions, the progress bar had moved off 0% after the half hour mark.

Perhaps there would be nothing to be too concerned about had the progress meter reached 1% - 100% at some point.

Edit: Ive restored to factory defaults and I shall try the Scan again tomorrow in the morning.

Repaired and uninstalled the program.

Then I installed downloaded program.

Smart Scan works fine, Full Scan still stuck at 0% and now the SafeZone Browser has gone!!

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I got a thought.
Read the FAQ and posts on this webboard.
You would have known that the SafeZone Browser has been gone over a month ago. ;)

I,ve had heuristics sensitivity set to normal and low. The scan still seems bricked up or pondering something forever.

Quick Scan progress completes to 100% in half an hour.

Does that progress result narrow possible cause as to why Full Scan has stopped working?

My first question is why are you running full scans ???
Are you suspecting an infection ???
Under normal circumstances, if the system is clean, Avast constantly checks to keep you clean.
Unless you suspect something, the scans only serve to make you feel good but really don't accomplish anything.
Your computer, your time. I personally have better things to do with my time. :)
Have a nice day. :)

There's a known bug with the full scan staying stuck at 0% for a while (rootkit scan taking place).. eventually, say in some extreme cases, it takes more than a hour to make it 1%. Once it has reached 1%, the scan usually completes quickly and the percentage moves quicker.

You also need to take into account that if it's your first full scan (that includes a first full scan after a clean install) that Avast! is populating the cache thus further scans will run quicker.

I got Avast to complete its Full Scan.

Thanks for the tip - the progress meter took seven hours to complete.

So I am satisfied now that it can do a full scan, in any event that I should need it.

It is disconcerting that it took an hour and a half to reach 1% - I dont remember it being like that before, but I am most please that it was able to accomplish the task.

It is so unusual that a progress meter would stay at 0% for so long, as it does actually look like it is not working at all. Thank the Forum for its help.

In a future update (No ETA), some stats for the scans will be brought back to actually persuade the user that the scan is not stuck.
