Title: Master Password only working on one of my devices
Post by: REDACTED on October 14, 2017, 04:28:54 PM
I am having the same problem as in this topic:

https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=209589.0

I have two windows pc's. I installed and set up Avast passwords on my main rig first we'll call it pc 1, I set up sync on this pc first. Then I installed Avast passwords on my laptop we'll call it pc 2, and set up sync. I can log into Avast passwords no problems on pc 2, but pc 1 will not accept the master password. I am 100% certain that the master passwords are the same, and I've tested them on both pc's the night before and they were both working. This must be some type of bug. I tried to reinstall just the passwords module on pc 1 but then didn't work as nothing happens when I try to login. Can I just reinstall Avast with a clean uninstall tool or something, then reset it up on pc 1, then run sync? Suggestions?\

Thanx.

I downloaded avast clean uninstall, ran it. Removed the chrome extension. Ran Ccleaner. Shut down a couple times. Then re-downloaded and installed Avast. After install, I didn't sign in, I went right into passwords. Unfortunately Avast was still insisting on asking me for my password!?!?! WTH! Why can't it just allow me to create a new passwords account? I've checked pc 2 again and it's working fine. Note: I did use the same master password for both computers, could this have caused a bug? What can I do to fix this?

FYI The following worked after I tried it a second time:

Turn off self defense in Avast->Settings->Troubleshooting
Close AvastUI
Stop service called avast! Antivirus (e.g. open TaskManager and do it on tab Services)
Delete the folder you've sent the list of (You may want to backup the data first just for the case something unexpected happens or for later analysis)
To do so run this command prom command prompt: del /f /s "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Avast Software\APM\%USERNAME%"
Start avast service
Open UI
Enable self defense
Now you can activate passwords again (as you are using new version we don't ask you for setting up master password during initial setup
Go to Avast-> Privacy-> Passwords section
Go to Avast-> Settings-> Passwords
Setup your new master password
Enable synchronization
OnSecond device confirm your windows device when you are requested to do so
Wait for a while your records gets synced in few seconds (depending how many data you have)

I'm having the same problem.  I've synchronized the two machines and the password works on the one I ceated it on but the other will just not recognize my master password which I know 100% to be correct.  This software has been nothing but a pain in the backside since I installed it so it's coming off both machines tomorrow.  I'm fed up to the back teeth of bugged software from Avast.

Each device is having its own password. The master password is never synchronized!
If you have not set master password for windows (as you haven't been forced to do so) and you can see Master password entry screen then it means that feature we call "system login" failed when your password storage is unlocked with you windows account unlock.
It should only happen in case someone else changed your password for windows account. If that happens ask that someone to change it back to password you were using for windows before and then login to account and change your windows password to the new one.

I don't use a password to log into windows and never have so that blows that one out of the water.  If they have to have separate master passwords then surely the second machine should not be asking for one as I have never set one up on that.  This is now a Catch22 situation where I am required to enter a master password that I have never set.  Wonderful!  Not to worry I've just dumped it all as total rubbish.

If you don't use password to windows and we you have not master passwords (on Avast passwords set) then it a bug we haven't found and seen yet. Could you please let me know windows version you are running so I can check this out?
