In Google Chrome use Miner Block ->

Hi bob3160,

Just to give you a reply in a quick and dirty.

This is a complete new blocking territorium to encompass.
Just see how Mainland China is reacting here.
Scams and fakes easily to spoil the broth,
and major bank managers question (ponzi-)schemes of block-chain currency mining.

But that info apart, I want to block it inside the browser,
and some like to make such blocks come hard-coded on their device/OS.

This is a new online profit scheme, where the browser owner does not seem to profit that much.
In the program that works the host file, like the one you linked to, makes this coming blocked:
[Anti-WebMiner]
Version=1.5
[Hosts]
-cnhv.co
-gus.host
-jsecoin.com
-pr0gramm.com
-coin-hive.com
-reasedoper.pw
-mataharirama.xyz
-listat.biz
-lmodr.biz
-minecrunch.co
-minemytraffic.com
-azvjudwr.info
-jroqvbvw.info
-jyhfuqoh.info
-kdowqlpt.info
-xbasfbno.info
-coinhive.com
-edgeno.de
-crypto-loot.com
-ppoi.org
-2giga.link
-kisshentai.net *
-coinerra.com
-kiwifarms.net

The theater of these activities is much wider and I would go for a mine blocking extension inside the browser,
combined with a good ad-blocker like uBlock Origin, there are also specific blocklists one could add to your ad-blocker of choice.

It looks like the developers of blocking are just starting their offensive.

Look here: http://www.badbitcoin.org/thebadlist/

* this one is missed in the uBlock and minerBlock list.
Do not visit, because anime smut (not for minors)!

Avoid this online scanner here: htxps://blockexplorer.com/ Wants to open your webcam!!

What avast could do, well is"warn against high CPU code which may be malicious".

Important info about the blocking of the bad ones and the problems with it in this Stackexchange discussion: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/49907/is-there-a-way-to-blacklist-or-track-ransomware-bitcoin-addresses
