After updating Windows 10 Fall Creators Update,
the Windows Defender Security Center Virus and Threat Protection no longer able to show the avast free status
"status unavailable, open avast antivirus for information"
I already try https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/81/ and make sure Avast is active by following the tutorial here https://support.avast.com/en-us/article/34/
Is there something I missed or does Avast no longer compatible with the new Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Security Center?
-
I have the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on my win10 laptop and no issues.
That said in theory I should be more likely to experience any compatibility as I'm not using the latest avast free version (using version 17.5.2303) on this laptop. I tend to hang back on avast program updates this win10 laptop, whilst I do my testing on my winXP desktop; I have a much more robust backup and recovery strategy on the desktop.

Thanks for your kind reply,
just tried uninstall using avast clear and re-install avast Free,
but seems my Windows Defender Security Center still unable to provide avast status :
Avast Antivirus is installed as an antivirus provider.
Status unavailable, open Avast Antivirus for information.
Maybe someday I figure out myself whats wrong, for now, though Windows Defender Security Center can't provide avast status, it seems avast is running fine
-
If you look at my image, you will see that it is essentially the same as yours and my avast is working correctly, that is the more important issue and the Windows Defender Security Centre is saying 'Your Device is being protected'. It recognises that you have avast installed but it is unable to report the status, this is more an issue with the Windows Defender Security Centre than Avast.
When a 3rd party AV is installed Windows Defender should be disabled by windows.
The avast tray icon should show its status, if there is an issue the icon should change to reflect its condition.

All Defender is telling you that it isn't your protection. Avast is protecting you and,
if you click on the link they provide, you'll open up Avast where you'll get your information.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for all the reply.

You're welcome.
Very interesting that the Microsoft solution is:
I would like to recommend that you use Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender to protect your Computer.
No way, they broke it now they want you to use their product ;)

This should be fixed in next Avast version.

Thanks for the clarification Martin.

The website may not be malicious. The tool they offer is probably a different story.
I would not download that "tool"

You downloaded the current version. The fix is slated for the next version.
I have downloaded and installed the new version 17.8.2318. The issue is not resolved in version 17.8.2318.
Is there any further advice available?

A screenshot of your problem would make things easier to verify.

For me, the first post is from black_coffee and I see a screenshot in that post (showing Windows Defender Security Center with the Status unavailable, open Avast Antivirus for information message).

Yes, I realise what Windows Defender is telling us, but I was referring to the response from MartinZ:
This should be fixed in next Avast version.
but it is NOT fixed in version 17.8.2318, at least, not for me on several Windows 10 Pro 64-bit PCs.
-
Guess you'll have to wait for MartinZ to answer. I don't see a problem for Avast to fix.

I realize this doesn't resolve your problem however I have the latest build installed on my 8510p Win 10 Creators 64bit machine and everything shows as it should. Both in the UI and Security Centre.

Hmm this looks like something different, that the service that reports status to Windows Security Center doesn't work at all in your case...
Could you please send me the zipped log folder from C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log ?
Thanks

Uploading files to the Avast FTP server: https://support.avast.com/article/FTP-file-upload

Not only that, the forum software doesn't allow .rar or any other file type other than those image and text file types listed.
You could upload it to a file sharing site and PM MartinZ the sharing link to download it.

I have the same issue. " Virus protection : status unavailable open avast"
Did someone find out how to fix it?
Avast 17.8.2318
Win 10 version 1709

Posible Solution:
For all the people having this issue, the solution I found was: uninstall avast, restart the pc/laptop, download avast offline installer, complete installation, add a rule to allow firewall access to avast (look on the internet on how to allow that to any software), restart, done.
Basically the problem I had was that Avast could not complete its installation because it was blocked by the firewall ???, meaning that even if i could open the Avast UI i couldn't update the virus database neither the software version itself. After that Avast is working fine for me. You can also try to simply allow firewall access to the Avast installation that you already have :D.

I have no issues using Avast Premier, Avast Cleanup, or Avast VPN alongside Defender. The major change to Defender is though it's not enabled as the default provider, it isn't disabled either. Defender respects you've got another product but will ask for periodic updates and perform weekly scans by default. You can change this of course but since I've had no issues between Defender and Avast products, I would keep this ability enabled. It makes for a more secure computer, if Avast misses something, Defender will catch it (unless it's the boot-time scan, which is superior to all scans performed in user land.)
