Title: How do I delete Avast?

I've been forced to download Avast to get another piece of software I need. I had Avast before on my previous computer and don't want it again on this one as it got progressively less functional.

I tried deleting it from Add/Remove Programs, but the screen that came up didn't include a Delete/Remove option.

I then tried deleting it by hand from the Program Files directory, but that wasn't possible either (presumably it starts up and then can't be deleted as it's detected by Windows as running?)

So how do I get rid of this thing?
