Title: 3 Avast Antivirus processes
Post by: REDACTED on November 17, 2017, 06:02:08 PM
Is this normal? Previous I had 2 processes, now 3. The details tab also show 3. The processes seem to be Avast UI -processes, when I checked at the properties page. The pathfile is same for all of those 3. When I open the actual interface, one of those 3 become application, instead of process. I have Win 8.1 OS and my Avast is version 17.8.2318. I took a picture of Task Manager, show you can see what I mean...

So it isn't normal? Why is Avast so buggy nowadays? There's all kinds of problems... Scans don't seem to be doing anything, multiple ghost-processes, etc. So what should I do? I mean... Avast is working, so I don't know if I should bother to repair it. Or if that don't work (usually don't) uninstall and then reinstall again. That's lot of work (it really is). And even then there's no guarantee, that it would get rid of those processes. Could I hope, that some future Avast update would fix it? Or maybe I should just find some other program...

Repair Avast:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> Avast
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

Just registered for this particular issue. I've attached a picture.

Just tried repairing the installation like suggested above but they're still 3. The screenshot was taken after repairing (although there's no difference). Or was it something done or purpose? Either way, the good thing is that if it is indeed a bug, it doesn't affect other programs' functionality.

Next step would be a clean reinstall...

Any chance this will be looked upon until the next version is out? Tried repairing one more time and still nothing, and reinstalling isn't something I have time for... And no guarantee it's going to solve anything.

I meant a clean reinstall of Avast not the OS.

Thanks for all the tips, however shortly after my last reply I've decided to completely uninstall Avast and try my luck with another software to see how things go and compare them.

I will not mention the name as I don't want to push anyone from using Avast or to advertise it, but so far my experience with the new software is so much better. A few more modules active than what I used in Avast and yet the performance is significantly better. I will likely not return to Avast if things keep going as well as they do now. Thanks for your time.

Well it is a bug of some sorts, what else would it be? At least what I can tell, it doesn't seem to affect to the program itself at anyway. And the processes aren't there always... When I open my PC, there's only one , but when the program updates itself (propably virus definitions and some other stuff what it does at boot), then the other processes show up. It's kinda weird, almost intentional. And what I've been reading, it's nothing new either! So the main question is, why they don't fix it? You would think, that they know this issue by now. And the answer should not be, that you must clean uninstall Avast and then reinstall it. That should never be the answer! Are here in the forums any Avast developers or representatives? Could they shed some light to the matter?

According to the devs it's normal, nothing to worry about. Cheers
