Title: AVAST file theft! vol de fichier!
Post by: REDACTED on December 05, 2017, 09:04:11 PM
After download and execute one soft to upgrade one device in beta version, and a restricted file not to share..
AVAST analyse it, and say it's sent to avast, wait more hours to check!!
I never autorise AVAST to steal my files!! VOLEURS !

You do realize all AV's do this, most just don't even tell you it's going to be individually checked for you, like avast! does. They all submit unknown files to their servers for future analysis and enhancement of protection.

exactly, even Windows Defender does it

DeepGuard makes sure that you use only safe applications. The safety of an application is verified from the trusted cloud service. If the safety of an application cannot be verified, DeepGuard starts to monitor the application behavior.

ComodoAV do not automatically send the file.

and 'The safety of an application is verified from the trusted cloud service' is not same as send file in cloud.. It can just check hash if unknown or not and sure or not.
'If the safety of an application cannot be verified, DeepGuard starts to monitor the application behavior.'  ) == local PC monitor

Except Comodo does send files to their servers. And their service is so slow they don't manage to process them for months.

Comodo doesn't tell you that it sends them. Avast lets you know it's happening.
You tell me who's the thief ???

ComodoAV do not automatically send the file, files is added on list,  and I can choose to block it, allow it, or send it for analysis.

You can disable CyberCapture in the settings, if you don't need/want it.

Well, that's up to you. But HD space shouldn't be an issue nowadays.

I think that you may have inadvertently found a bug as an installation over 1GB I would say is not the norm.

I have just checked my win10 system and it is 1.3GB and I believe it is the DEFs folder and avast housekeeping (not clearing old defs sub-folders) that is the issue.  In the defs sub-folder I have 7 versions of defs (130MB ish) and a lot of much smaller streaming updates.  Ordinarily there should the current virus defs folder and the last one - not 7 in my case - so it looks very like that the avast housekeeping is failing to remove old defs sub-folders.

EDIT: Typo

This isn't the beta on my win10 laptop but the latest regular release.  I'm pretty much staying away from the betas now, I can do without the hassle.

If you look at my image again, the outdated ones are from November, so house cleaning has missed them, I was wondering if the same had happened to baudav.

I had thought to disable the self-defence module and remove these, but keep getting a file in use error for several files, even though these are old def sub-folders and with the shield control disabled.  Looks like this will require action in safe mode or a reinstall.

Hi Dave, might be time for a clean reinstall...
My installation is much smaller, while running all the additional Premier stuff.

I can confirm it on Windows 10. and have reported it to the Developers.

Well I have been hanging back on that for the moment, in case it is a bug I would then have some data/logs, etc.

I can confirm it on Windows 10. and have reported it to the Developers.

Thanks Bob,
I suspect there are others experiencing this, but what was said before about the size of hard drives these days not many would even notice.

Lets see if the devs can fix this, something which would appear to have been hanging around since mid to late November. Which was around the time the last beta and possibly the regular release version 17.7.2318.

Calm down, just because avast uploaded your 'private photos', does not mean it will be shared publicly.

And yes, literally every AV does this, you should be thanking Avast for telling you.

@Be Free! :  the target of AVAST users has changed. Avast is for beginners; I need to keep the advanced functions, and be able to choose according to the detection. Avast has evolved (not to say regression) and no longer fits my needs.

I use Comodo now, and confirm comodo can request before send files. Never display SCAM  to release 1TB on a 300GB disk; can display changelog before start program update, never discreetly add adv in the external email to say I USE AVAST!...
It's not the only regression from AVAST... (I'll let you look? if you arrive, you seem more able to find porn where you do not expect it.)

---
;) Thanks to AVAST, and his support for protecting my PCs for many years. It was the best.

While I support fixing the cleanup mechanism, 1GB is 1/1000th of a 1TB drive, which are like the most common capacity owned by most people. One thousandth of a terabyte! It's insignificant. Imagine us having 500MB Norton antivirus on 4GB drives back in the day. Now, that was significant...
