Title: Avast detect a malware, should I remove it?
Post by: REDACTED on December 07, 2017, 12:14:37 PM
I just tried to update driver talent, which I used for years, but my Avast premium detect it as a malware and cancel the download.

Any suggestions about what should I do next?

Hi,

Driver talent was detected as a "decompression bomb" by Avast...
I was unable to use it. Eset and Kaspersky I used before never detect anything, so it may be a false positive.
I ditch my licence and go with Iobit.

Kind regards,
M

decompression bomb just mean it is a highly compressed file that avast will not unpack and scan
It does not mean it is malicious and in most cases it is not

Hi Pondus,

that's a very old story...
And as every people can change, why may a company not be able to change too ?
If I don't like some things with Iobit, Iobit driver update works fine. Better IMHO than Driver Talent.

Best regards,
M

Yes it is a old story, and you do with the info as you want, i just posted in case you did not know

Note that many IObit installers get PUP detections when scanned at VT, so yea it seems they have changed ...

You are right, and I completely agree with you  ;) It's something I don't like at all with Iobit products...
Their Driver updater works well. I had had 2 BSOD whan I was using Driver Talent on win 10 and one time a complete mess, with a broken PC. I had to restore all. Nothing like that ever happens with Iobit. But as usual, every PC is different.

I know there is also an Avast product too, but never tried it...

Kind regards,

Thanks for your information, but I've been using driver talent for a long time, and it works fine, never seen any abnormal behavior before...
Kaspersky reports nothing according to it...
