Why oh why do I constantly keep getting pop ups to upgrade to a paid version?    Is there anyway of stopping these  irritating messages?

An occasional popup is normal in the free version. You can stop it by purchasing a paid version and unchecking
"Show popup offers from other Avast products."

I haven't lost anything, I'm still using the free version of Avat. :)
That wasn't arrogance, it was a simple statement of fact.
Like you, I'm a customer.
