I've started getting a 'CAvastTrayIcon' window in the main part of my taskbar, just since latest update of Avast (21st Dec 2017 08:18:14)
It doesn't do anything, and I can't close it.
Running
Win7 Home Premium (SP1)
Avast Pro 17.9.2322 (build 17.9.3761.0)
Tried uninstall and reinstall (x2) - taskbar window disappears until the first reboot...
About ready to ditch Avast and swap to another "intel" based anti-virus provider...

If it is, you need to uncheck it and select OK at the bottom.

The tray icon setting change doesn't fix this but I did fix it by
Start - Control Panel - Programs and Features - Avast Free Antivirus - Change - Repair - reboot.
-
I have this issue too since the last update. Tried to re-install and reboot. Tried to do a repai and reboot. Neither of these works. Please help. I have the Tray icon on the right as I am supposed to but also down below on left that I cannot close.
-
yeah me too it just started appearing and tried both of those options. Even tried the avast clean utility in safe mode and it still shows up...

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hello, Dear Santa.
I've been a real good boy and made all that clean reinstall step by step exactly. I've also imported the settings at the end, as I definetely don't want to go through all the settings again manually.
And I'm getting this window icon again.
Please, Santa, don't give them no presents - to ppl who can't even hide a window properly! Oh, for ducks sake, why did I have to go through all the reinstalls in the first place?! It's a simple and obvious issue, make a fix for that!
-
I did, re-installed, installed, erased the registry data and re-installed it and it remains the same. And I rebooted after every operation.

Hello guys,
sorry for this annoying bug in our product. It has been noted and I will start working on it ASAP. Hopefully, we should have this issue fixed in next release.
Please, be patient with us as we are making some bold changes in Antivirus UI and sometimes bugs might slip our QA process. If you notice anything report it here on forums or join Beta program so you can help us make the application as bug free as possible.

It did go away a day or two ago) I assume it was smth of your doing as I didn't touch it anymore - so thank you very much.
I also want to apologize for the way I posted this in the first place, I didn't know about your works on UI and I'm sorry for what I said. Perhaps, a simple notification for users before testings on UI would prevent any complains.
Thanks for your work! Avast is great!

this is so annoying... tried every solutions but still there. :o
I hope you send update soon to fix this.
-
Nope. Still there.

Hello again,
the issue should be fixed in next release of Avast, which is planned to be in early February, or if you are Beta users, in a week or so.
Since the bug is quite random and we couldn't really test it with certainty, I am asking for your help. When you get the new Avast version, please, let us know if you encounter the problem again.
Thank you

Not seriously! Waiting till February?? No, Avast has made a mistake and that has to be correct immediately! This icon is realy disturbing!
-
Looks like ya QA needs to be a little more through and wait a week or so before allowing any new updates to the main program to see if anything like this happens, because just doing a quick Quality Assurance and then releasing it causes this kinda mess, and gets you Dev's working on a issue that coulda been delt with if they did not say ya it is fine then this happens!
I have had this issue since the last update and tbh it is getting annoying an almost making me want to uninstall and go to AVG, but this AV seemingly catches stuff during a d/l which AVG does not!
-
It's gone now, but I see no update've been done to the program as the version stated is 17.9.3761.278 from december 21.

It could have been done through a VPS update or an emergency update.
Neither would have changed your version number.

Not gone for me. Out of about 15 workstations, one is presenting this problem. Tried all the tricks up to and including an uninstall - cleanup - reinstall. As long as Manas says there is a fix in the works for the next program update, that's good enough for me. It's not interfering with the programs ability to detect threats and I told the user of that machine that they were selected to test a special new add-on for the next month or so. Hey, it was that or "put a sticky note over it and move on". I chose the positive route. :D

I too am getting this same icon popping up in the taskbar on my Windows 10 computer even when Avast is not opened. I have also tried uninstalling/installing and the repair feature to no avail. It is very annoying because it looks like the program is open when it is not. I called tech support and allowed them to remote into my system and they could not fix it. The final word was that Avast appeared to be working so they could do nothing else. Well Avast is working but when you open it you then have two Avast icons on your taskbar and upon closing one goes away and the other stays. The icon popping up for no reason is definitely an Avast problem. The attitude, "it works so what do you want" is not very good support.

I have exactly the same problem!
Disappears if you reboot the PC a couple of times.
But this continues throughout January!
...And now February! >:(

Hi! Thank you for a great antivirus program.
However, the CAvastTrayIcon window is still causing problems -- but in a different way. It's not visible -- but it steals focus on startup! This happens even when "Show Avast Tray Icon" is disabled.
This is highly problematic for an HTPC, for example. I run KODI on startup, in fullscreen, and have been annoyed for a long time that about 30 seconds after the startup, the task bar ends up on top of the fullscreen player window. Finally I decided to do something about it. I changed my startup script to start the MPC-HC media player in full screen mode, playing a file directly.
I did this because it has a useful feature -- when it loses focus, it tells you what it lost focus to.
Focus lost to avastui.exe - CAvastTrayIcon
Gotcha! :)
Your UI code must be unnecessarily calling SetForegroundWindow or something to that effect.
Would most appreciate if you could stop doing that in the next update!
Thank you in advance.
