Title: Need for Avast comments on Meltdown/Spectre regarding MS Fixes and Avast
Post by: loungehake on January 11, 2018, 03:42:31 PM
Bearing in mind that different releases of Avast are in use, we need Avast comments on Meltdown/Spectre regarding likely problems or lack of them with various versions.

To put it a better way, which versions of Avast are compatible with the MS Meltdown/Spectre fixes? Do they qualify for the quality compatibility registry key which permits further MS updates?

All Avast 8+ versions are compatible.

Which, I now realise, means that Avast software AFTER version 7 does not access the Windows kernel directly but through Microsoft provided and approved entry points. Not all AV software conforms to that requirement it seems.

Thanks Asyn for that reassurance. I can now relax a bit in the knowledge that I do not need to rush round to update Avast installations.
