Title: Avast errors, crashing services since this morning
Post by: REDACTED on February 01, 2018, 10:58:05 AM
Hello everyone, since this morning my free avast antivirus is getting strange errors, i tried doing clean unistall, and downloaded new installation from official site but problem is presistent. Repair option didnt change anything as well.

Im using win 7 sp1, Avast for god knows how long and comodo firewall, i know that in theory those two are not doing well together but in practice i have been using both for more then 5 years and never had problems with them. Also disabling Comodo Firewall doesnt change anything regarding avast, and Avast it self has free pass in Comodo, no HIPS, anitivrus or anything aditional from Comodo, just pure firewall.
Other then that, im also using Hijack this as on demand and Malwarebytes ON DEMAND only. System is up to date and i havent been installing or doing any kind of changes to system or any program past 7 days.

This is errors i get whenever i try to start quick scan, full system scan or even when i try to bring Avast up from system tray.

Just for sake i scanned system with like 4 antivirus products and nothing was found, i keep my system clean. So thats its not about infected PC.

Here is requested file id from avast report tool: T4BKT or if thats not right, then this 20180201_1808_T4BKT_3620305223

If anyone has solution to this or have any idea how to fix problem please

You're not the only one. I have exactly the same and have done the same.

I will add that it is the Avast service that keeps crashing with error 7031 and 7034.

I have tried reporting it to Avast, but get no indication of whether they have heard or not.
I am beginning to get a little cross as the error reporting is absolutely terrible.

Can you please create the support package as described in this article (https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/33/) and post the shown FileID here?
Thanks.

Not happening in Windows 10 v. 1709

To be honest i was very close on giving up. Im bit fed up with Avast lately with all those paid futures siting in free version, i know its free i dont get rights to be mad, im not, but i also cant say i like that aproach where everything screams buy pay etc.

I already unistalled Avast as it annoys me with every few min crashing, i know its not common problem, but i also believe its comming from avast it self not my machine/system.

However i will install avast again now just to test it and submit that form u asked for,i dont expect that it will solve my problem, but il do it as i was using your software free for years at least that much i can do. Maybe it will help someone.

Mine started crashing yesterday (Windows 7.1 64-bit) Avast Premium.

At this time I've attempted repair, off-line virus scan, re-install, and submitted a support ticket this morning.  Installed Malwarebyes and ran a scan with that as well.

I am experiencing an error since this morning too! When I try to open AVAST Internet Security, there is a "UI failed to load, Restart the service" error message! After restarting, the service is fixed temporallily but after a few minutes it crashes again!

So its not isolated problem, as i said its problem with Avast it self

It's what it's starting to look like.  There's another topic on this thread about the same issue.

** Edit ** Also disabled Game Mode and still having the issue with the service shutting donw.

From what I've seen, it seems to be isolated to Windows 7.
I've already reported this to Avast on the Developers Channel.
As soon as I get any news, I'll pass it along. Sorry you're having a problem.

Hello,

I have the same on my machine with Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Version. It's started yesterday about 21 o'clock. I have Avast Primer. Repairing, clean install, registry cleaning do not help. The Avast Service is still restarting - sometimes every 15 minutes, sometimes every two. I'm sure that this is not related to recent MS updates, because I have uninstalled all January fixes but the problem persists still. On second machine with Windows 10 64-bit Home Avast service crushed today only one, but it was happend. The service AvastSvc.exe on Windows 7 has been rebooted 4 times since15 minutes.

If you switched the avast "GAME MODE" on, try to switch it off. Seems to work for me (unless the issue was solved by avast in the meantime...in this case, sorry for the useless advice).

I should have waited a bit longer, 50 mins later (instead of 20 the whole day), the issue reappeared... :-[

Sorry fellows...

I've not heard anything from Avast but have passed along your information. Thanks
I've not experiencedthe problem.
1. I'm using Windows 10
2. I didn't install the GameMode

I'm also having this problem.  Every few minutes, the red cross appears on the Avast icon.  When I click on it, I get the message UI failed to load and AV service is not responding and when I click to restart, it does, only to go off again a few minutes later.

Interestingly, when I go into the Action Center on my computer, it reports that all aspects of Avast are still turned on, even though the red cross is showing on the Avast icon.  I reckon that it is definitely a bug on the UI, which Avast needs to sort out.

I am on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and using the latest (paid for) Avast Internet Security.

Hello,

@OlivierfromParis - I will check the solution with deactivated the game mode. Maybe it helps. Thanks!

-- Edit --

Unfortunately, it's not working. Avast service is restarting over and over again, even when I have deactivated the Game Mode.

Sorry, I posted this in a different thread,  but it seems to apply more here:

Sounds like my problem earlier this evening.  Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. Avast free 17.5.2303.  Had this same problem 6 months or so ago.  Solved it that time with a complete avast upgrade of free version and re-install.  This time was able to do a repair, and  then a re-boot.  Seemed to fix it.  Will see what happens next time I have to reboot.

Avast has now been up and running for probably close to an hour.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I usually only have to reboot my system when the power goes out.

Curious, isn't it...I wonder how many people are running Windows 7 and avast free...and we are the only ones having a problem?

Many ppl around the world use Win7 as they dont like/agree with things win 10 brings along it self, yes it is better and newer system but it also has flaws that many users wont go over, Avast is by far most popular free antivirus solution, and believe me there is at least 30million win7 devices running this combo. We are not alone, it just might not happen to each and everyone just like with most software bugs, and many to be honest dont care that much to come register on forums etc...

Anyway i hope this gets fixed by Avast asap, i submited data requested, if im needed for some more info im here, will keep checking this topic for news. Till then i switched to alternative av solution.

Another day has come and this issue seems not to be fixed yet! On the system tray an x is appearing but it seems that security is working properly :P Is it safe, under those situations, to make any e-banking transactions?? Thanks! (Windows 7 SP1 32-bit)

I too have reported this in another forum thread.

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate, and this UI/service crashing began yesterday, 1st February 2018, on my Desktop and another unconnected W7 laptop, both of which are running paid for Avast Internet Protection.

There have been no Windows updates on this machine since 10th January, so that seems an unlikely cause.

So far, I have:-
- made sure the Remote Desktop service is set to Auto and running
- done at least 2 repairs of the installed program from Win Control Panel>Programs
- done a complete fresh install of Avast Internet Protection using avastclear, deleting driver files and program folders etc. as detailed by Avast
- run the avastsupport tool and sent them the results this morning
- torn out a lot of hair

The crash rate seems to have stepped up to about every 10 minutes or so on both machines.

I notice that, having followed the UI restart Avast screen lately, I now have two (both unkillable) instances of AvastUI running, at different sizes, in the Task Manager viewer.

This is really irritating, and not good for a product for which I've paid. Most galling is the lack of explanation of the causes of this, and endless re-installs and repairs aren't the answer; certainly not here.

I have the same. Result? Just the same - both restarting and rebooting Avast services. One thing is interesting - when AvastSvc.exe is closed and UI informed about it, opening the avastsupport tool restoring Avast service and tool reported that there is no problem with Avast software. Very strange...

I think what's happening with the support tool is that it sees the service isn't running, starts it and gives it a green tick. If you click on the "i" in a circle against the Avast Status Check at the top, the popup will show that it logged in red and corrected the problem. What it's actually doing is fixing the problem "on the quiet" and when that's done, reporting it's OK with a green tick. Most tools will report what's wrong up front before correcting it (if indeed they can).

I restarted my system for another reason, and it obviously loaded all the stuff I have at startup (quite a lot, as it happens), but Avast sat there quite happily for about 20 minutes without crashing. I then started up Firefox, and a minute or so later Avast crashed.

chrome.exe (described as Google Chrome in Task Manager) is in my startup, running from C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application. I killed it from TM, at which point Avast crashed. To me, that would mean some link between chrome and Avast, or else the UI wanted to report something, perhaps about the killed chrome, couldn't, and crashed.

Hi,

I don't think there is a connection between Avast crashes and Chrome. I'm not using Chrome at all. Perhaps there's a link between some programs and Avast Shields, for example web shield, and this connection is the cause of the failure. I noticed that the service resets more often when Thunderbird is enabled.

Avast will be releasing a VPS update sometime this morning that should
solve the problem for most of those affected.
As soon as I know when that VPS update is release I'll post it here.

I have Windows 7, Avast Internet Security, on my laptop. Am asked for a password everytime I want to scan or go to any site I need to log in, box appears asking me if I want to save PW associated with that particular log in, I click OK, enter the PW I had for Avast, for the last few days = ???
Message keeps telling me it's wrong = ?? So I changed it... Still tells me it's wrong PW !!!

Used to love Avast when it was free, simple, now it costs a bomb with all additives... Very confusing, time consuming, they're losing my custom soon. Will either go back to free version or some other antivirus altogether.
Anyone has any idea why it's playing up ?
Am savvy but no techie ... Electronics drive me nuts !  :o ::) ???
Thanks for any help.

Definitely Avast now working properly. Thanks for fast solution!

It would be quite useful for all concerned if there were some explanation of the cause of this problem.

I have just started up my desktop W7 system, and, for the first time ever, I see in the Event Viewer an Application Error for chrome.exe, which is a prefetch in my startups with this entry:-

Yes   HKCU:Run   CFA4BAFF5696A87DDBFEBDBB843936345DB9A8D9._service_run   Google Inc.   "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --type=service /prefetch:8

Thus, the chrome prefetch isn't running on my machine as it would normally be.

I have previously noted in threads on this problem that killing this running entry from Task Manager caused Avast to crash immediately with the error that has bedevilled us recently. I have no idea whether this was just coincidence, or whether the previously-unseen Application Error on chrome.exe I describe above is somehow connected to the Avast fix to solve the UI/Avast service problem.

It would be good to know a bit more about this whole thing. I am never happy with "fixes" which involve fresh installs and so forth, and they remind me of the standard useless Microsoft response whereby the inevitable "shot in the dark" blind recommendation for fixing unexplained problems was a clean reinstallation of Windows!

Hi, the crashes were related to HNS (Wi-Fi Inspector).

Thanks for that information, which is all I wanted to know. It's far more useful and reassuring to the end-users and paid-up customers such as myself than the bare "it was a problem and we've fixed it" explanation. It also helps me in tracking down my new chrome error.

Totally agree with you
the management of the UI remote is quite strange enough  to get some information when it does not work properly after an update.
