Title: Removing "avast! Online Security" from Windows Explorer Ribbon in Win10
Post by: hereandthere on February 02, 2018, 03:05:15 PM
Not sure has anyone encountered this issue. I've just uninstall my copy of Avast, and I realized that a button named "avast! Online Security" was stuck on my Windows Explorer Ribbon. Here's a screenshot:

Is there anyway to remove it? I'm assuming that I'll need to go into the Registry Editor to remove it. If so, can someone point me to the correct direction?

Thanks!

Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)

Hi Asyn, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, that doesn't work. I've uninstalled Avast with the Uninstall Utility prior and after posting on the forum. My guess is the entry is being stuck somewhere in the Registry. Do you have any idea where can I find it?

Sorry, I don't use IE, wait for input from other helpers.

It may be found using FRST diagnostic tool if you want?

If so, see instructions here, step #2 second picture   https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194892.0

Attach the two diagnostic logs here in this topic and a log expert will be notified

To clarify, that's not IE, it's the ribbon for Windows Explorer instead.

A screenshot may help to understand.

That's not a part of the ribbon. Which folder are you exploring ???

Any folder has that option. I'm pretty sure it's being added there by Avast via the Registry, I'm just not sure where to look for it.

So why not try my suggestion

Thanks Pondus! I think I missed your post.

I've downloaded the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, searched for all the registry pointing to Avast, and removed them. My Window Explorer Ribbon is working as usual now. :D

Hello you all,

revamping this thread 'cause
1 - got the same issue  >:(
2 - pic already attached  :P
3 - may be considered closed  :-X
BUT  8)  8)
Solution is quite brutal! To clean ALL the entries is a quick giveaway but could be dangerous as well.
following the same steps led me to this two Registry keys:  ;D

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
"{CC1A175A-E45B-41ED-A30C-C9B1D7A0C02F}"="avast! Online Security"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{318A227B-5E9F-45bd-8999-7F8F10CA4CF5}]
""="avast! Online Security"

SO... which one should I cut? blue one o red one?  ::)
Anybody knowing what they're doing when tweaking registry???

Any help would be highly appreciated!! TNX

Posting in old topics is never a good idea. Things change in 2 years.

Posting in old topics is never a good idea. Things change in 2 years.

The only idea I'm still disappointed with myself is to have Avast installed on my machines.
This superhuge, ultrainvasive piece of SW is still popping around after years I thought I got rid of it.
Nonetheless avast is the only producer that felt the urge to develope a stand-alone uninstaller for its SW. That explains a lot.
So, my friend, I can observe that in two years things haven't changed that much and not in a way users would expect.
Probably is MORE huge and MORE invasive, maybe not, I don't really want to find it out.

concluding: do you know which of the keys above is to delete? Thank you for your time

First as has been said much has changed in two years and the "avast! Online Security" Add On is just one of them and is effectively independent from the Avast Program and can be removed from browsers in much the same way as other browser add-ons.

Though you can elect to install it in the Avast Program installation if you did a custom install.  Whilst it can be removed from the linkage to the program the browser add-on would have to be removed from your browser.

Many antivirus companies have an uninstall executable, mainly to remove the program if there is a problem with the regular control panel uninstall, etc.
