Title: Online Security Firefox Addon
Post by: Martin00 on February 28, 2018, 07:43:15 PM
Hello.

Does anyone knows why Avast Online Security addon for Firefox doesn't keep it settings in the private mode and how to fix that?

Note to developers: I think that automatically switching back all the time the "Statistics" to ON that sends info about my browser activity by the addon is even legal in my country...

Best regards,
Martin.

Cookies aren't saved in Private Mode, and AOS uses a cookie to store your settings.

Thats what I said...

And it's dumb to use cookies to save any addon settings...

You didn't say anything about cookies. The easiest way to get it to keep your settings is to let it save them outside of private mode then they will be remembered when you use private mode.

You're right, I must have misread. Sorry.

And that option you proposed wont work either in my case. I'm using private mode at all times and all saved cookies, browsing history, passwords etc are automatically deleted not only in private mode but also in standard mode. I don't know exactly how Avast think about security, but I'm trying my best to keep my PC safe and private from all prying eyes.

If you're looking for privacy on the internet, that battle was lost a long time ago.  All one can do is make it harder to follow you around.

That's true. And this addon doesn't help if you want a bit more privacy...

This. And I was like why the F are avast! Online Security settings getting erased every time I use CCleaner. Then I found out they are storing settings for it in a freaking cookie. So dumb.

@Martin00

You could always use CCleaner to clean your cookies after each session, but have the AOS cookie as an exception. I don't see how that could reveal anything about your usage.

So you are telling me that I need to resign from private mode in my browser, become more vulnerable and also install another software? I would rather uninstall that addon completely...
What does it do anyways? Shows me an icon which site is safe and witch doesn't, anything else? (By default it doesn't block stuff).

The few seconds it would take you to set the AOS settings would not make you vulnerable in any way. CCleaner is a good product that can 'help' your privacy by removing all traces of your browsing.

I already have clearing settings in Firefox, and I'm using Private Mode. I don't need another useless software for that.
I need the Avast Online Security addon to work like it suppose to. Why should I install some other software and also loose time by using CCleaner every time I finish browsing the internet and change entirely my browser settings just for this one addon? Its the addon that should be fixed.

Looks like Antiphising is the only option that be default is on when I need it to be...

Antiphising has been included in Web-Shield a while ago, you may consider to drop AOS.

Looks like Avast finally got some sense into their minds and not storing addon settings in cookies.
