Hey there,
we have released a brand new beta of Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows platforms! Although we don't usually do beta releases for our VPN products, this one is pretty big, so we wanted to share it with the community first before we go live globally. We're also providing you with a free beta license for a month in case you don't have a valid subscription.
Avast SecureLine v2.0 for Windows BETA

How to activate the free beta subscription
1. Download and install beta client.
2. Click Menu -> My licenses
3. Click Activate
4. Enter this activation code and click Activate SecureLine.

5. You've got the free subscription valid for a month.

- See for how long you’re connected to VPN

Right on time, I just got Secure line installed 2 days ago, and this is a topping on the cake.
More of the Avast! Vibe on the product now.

Yes.The license expired of Avast Premier and was automatically updated for the free and I decided to install the trial Avast Internet Security.

Just installed the new standalone beta vpn on a second system for testing purposes.
- Second system grabbed an existing single-use Securline VPN License in use on another primary system.
- Turned out that to use and insert the monthly activation code provided for the beta, it was necessary to deactivate the new freshly installed installation and then insert the monthly license code provided. The process to do so was not readily apparent.
- Deactivation seemed at first to involve uninstalling the new application. What should have been clear was this procedure would deactivate the primary vpn license and thus did not involve removing the application.
- Both systems have AIS installed as a part of a 3-system license.
The second system did snatch the single-use vpn license once before when an earlier version of avast standalone vpn was made available. The end result was the primary system lost access to the vpn network which I had paid for, or until the secondary system was removed from the vpn network. In both cases, in the first install and the newest one, another avast vpn was installed on the second system.
An average user might not know what to do if they encountered this edge case anomaly.
I propose a modification of the vpn install process to allow the manual insertion of a license or activation code similar to what is already in place in paid versions of avast. This, I feel, would help to prevent an edge case of multiple use of a single license, and allow the insertion of two or more single-use vpn licenses if required.
Other than this one issue, the standalone vpn works well and transparently. ;D

Will and when this stand-alone version will be integrated as component in the main Avast security suite?

Yes, the plan is to have this standalone version as a component integrated in the main Avast but as a more standalone experience. This means you will be able to access it from the main AV menu but the VPN UI would work separately. Timing wise, we're looking at next two months.

Downloaded beta subscription and it worked for one day. Now I receive a pop-up displaying it cannot establish a connection. It is a stand alone.Uninstalled beta and reinstalled to no avail.

Cannot run two systems on same network using avast vpn at the same time. Two different licenses in use, first is for one use 1 year, and second is the beta version good for one month.
Both vpn installations work, just not simultaneously. I get a server glitch issue on the beta version and a server refusal on the paid for version. :o

Hi, thank you for the report. Can you, please, send us contents of "c:\programdata\avast software\secureline\log" directory of both systems?

So far, it's nice!

I removed the SafeZone component from Avast - rebooted and then installed the stand alone version.
That prevented what I thought would have caused a conflict. It probably would have been nice to spell that out right away. :)

Alright, so I've been lightly browsing the internet today while connected to a VPN location that is closest to me, DNS seems to be really slow.
Typing in addresses that are most likely cached are taking quite a bit to resolve it seems. I browsed around in Zillow.com looking at the map for houses for sale in my area, and the map definitely took a bit longer than usual to render.
Are there any settings for DNS leak protection? I usually turn it off and use local DNS servers configured on my network.
Private Internet Access has settings like this

Thank you. Where to send both files and what named would files be? I'll post again when you say.
[EDIT:] Added attached pictures of AIS licensed system with Beta VPN system to follow:
Note: AIS SecureLine is protected by avast self-defense whereas Beta Standalone VPN is not.
Bit perplexed as to where files/logs are in AIS install.

Thanks for the beta. Installed on my main system, working fine so far.
Servers are noticeably slow compared to normal connection, I'll check why this happens (what is slow: DNS, servers or something else?).

I've complained about the same problem. Still waiting for an explanation. :)

Until now, everything is working pretty fine. I'm not having any issues and i'm always connected.
About the connection VPN speed, it's normal depending where you are and where you trying to connect.
I'm in Germany, and all the European servers works fine and always fast. The american servers have decent speed.
PS: i love this new version.

What is you partner that provide the VPN servers? What are the logging and privacy policy of the VPN service?

Being a longtime user of Avast VPN, I will state this v2.0 is a much improved version. Stable and steady. Connections are holding very well without fail; and any decreases in speed over running it disconnected (non-VPN) aren't significant. At least on my system.
I did notice this beta corrected an issue I had with the previous VPN (the alpha release) version. In that the previous one -- after an Avast update -- had an issue with the system tray icon not changing back to show disconnection status. But the icon changes correctly with v2.0.
Nice work on this one, Avast. I am definitely recommending your v2.0 to others.

Today I encountered an issue while trying out SecureLine v2 which occurs if your internet connection is disrupted. See the attached SecureLine logs: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hdass3oyng78sfd/SecureLineVPN_standalone_bug_logs.zip?dl=1
When your internet connection goes down, SecureLine attempts to reconnect, but appears to stop retrying after a while and then the internet connection was established. This causes any unmonitored internet activity to get routed directly instead of through VPN servers.
Other than this, I found no other issues while trying out this Beta. Nice update!

I downloaded the free version using to test the software, but when I click on the software, it wants a code. It sends me to buy it now and I don't want to buy it now unless I try it. Then I saw this post of the Beta version, I tried to test it but it tells me that it is impossible since the code or the license does not work. What is needed for the program to work in FREE mode and to be able to test it?
;D
-
Hi, you can test it for 7 days, see: https://www.avast.com/secureline-vpn#pc
-
Here the trial software from the link https://www.avast.com/secureline-vpn#pc asks for the activation code. I cannot test the product.

You're replying to a post from 2020. That offer has long gone by the wayside.

Why is this still pinned at the top of the list?

Why is this still pinned at the top of the list?
Only because someone posted in the topic and the listing is in chronological order. Plus this topic is in a sub-forum "Avast SecureLine VPN for Windows" with limited activity.
Your post also shoves it up the chronological order (as does my reply). Since it was started by a member of the Avast Team, it may well have been a sticky post.

The symbol in the leftmost column suggests that it is pinned. If it were not pinned, there probably wouldn't be any 2022 posts in the thread.

Bob reported it already, but be patient - it's weekend.
