Hi all.
I have multiple Win8.1/Win10 PCs on a home network (wired & wifi) that are no longer updating Avast Free 18.4.2338. There's a problem with Avast establishing connection to the update servers: servers.def.vpx & s-vpsnitro.avcdn.net/vpsnitro with a new Sagemcom 3864V3AC broadband gateway. No doubt it's mediocre, but the older 3864AC (a tad worse) works fine. Seems like a firewall filter. Alternate DNS? I can tracert fine. Win10 AV works fine. Installed the latest vpsupd.exe which also updated fine, but the connection problem persists. Uninstalled & reinstalled with offline version & removal tool in safe mode = no change. Any ideas?

Try OpenDNS or GoogleDNS.

Yep, already tried Open/Google DNS in router settings. No change. It affects avast updates only, both defs & prog. Next thing is to poke a hole in the firewall, I guess.

Update to the latest version (18.5.2342): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=219889.0

Good timing. Avast Free 18.5.2342 can now traverse this router for updates. There's a minor UI quirk with manual update settings, but the new updater has done the trick. Thanks Avast.

Thanks for the feedback.
