The installation should have realized that I'm using the stand alone version of Secure Line
and should have bypassed the installation of that module. Thanks

Still present, even after a clean install of the latest version.

Thanks for the new release, I posted release notes into the Japanese forum :)

Updated manually using the updater in Avast for my win10 Desktop and Laptop successfully.

Not a problem here in the free version of Avast.

Just gotta say I like the way the WiFi module has progressed, visually and performance. :)

This will be done in next version, we are already working on that.

i clicked on it out of curiosity but nothing happened, at least it didn't showed up any notification or something like that.

thank you!!

Hello,
installation file contains also Avast secure browser, but it must be unchecked before express/custom installation. It should be untickable under custom installation.

Is it just me or does everyone have this issue. After updating to the latest build, I can't enable the site blocking feature on the web shield. Whenever I set it to enable, it revert back to disable. FYI, I'm on Avast Premier + Win 10 april update 1803 (RS4) 64-bit.

I had problems updating with previous versions with a new router/gateway as per my recent post here (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=219885.0). Avast 18.5.2342 solves the issue, but there's a quirk with the UI/updater when setting updates to manual. If you click the update button, the updater/installer checks for updates & downloads correctly, but if you then click the OK button (for the defs tab) a loop ensues & the updater continually checks for updates & steals app focus unless you click the green OK UI button.

Should I uninstall the last version of Avast so I can do a custom install of the new version?

Should I uninstall the last version of Avast so I can do a custom install of the new version?
I thought you were going to install Norton...or did you forget ::)

I did install the premium version of Norton but I liked Avast better so I used the Norton removal tool to uninstall it. ::)

-
Key to a good antivirus program is does it protect my system(s)?
Avast does that and has for ten years now.
No infections, but then again, some of that has to do with my browsing habits and the fact I don't download and run new (free) programs all the time. I am mindful that changes I make to any system are permanent unless I back it up.
Avast does the trick for me, starting with the free version.

I guess we can now take it that Norton Premium isn't better than Avast :)

If you didn't constantly edit your posts and continually threaten to remove avast then only to return with more confusion then you likely wouldn't be putting yourself in the place of being the forum joke, those ridiculous signature phrases you keep coming up with only give reason for more jokes on your part.
I guess after all these years of members putting up with your lack of learning anything and total disrespect for those who reply to your ongoing confusing posts only to have you keep deleting posts and editing post after post make members wish you would just move on and stop wasting our time.

I don't plan on moving along unless someone forces me to.

If you continually ruin topics by removing and editing posts to leave nothing but a smiley after members have gone out of their way to help you then the option of a ban will be requested.
-
To answer your question, you can simply download the latest off line installer
and use it to do a custom install.

I would rather not come across post in topics that have been deleted.
I find it irritating and confusing making the forum experience less rewarding.

Hi
I've found serious bug in the newest release 18.5.2342
After updating Avast, when Windows starts up there are one of these bluescreens:
BAD_POOL_CALLER, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Please fix it soon.
Windows XP 32bit
-
Did the update using the Full Offline Installer ... went fine on Toshiba Laptop with Windows 10 Home 64 Build 1709 and also on my old Dell Dimension 8200 P4 1.8Ghz 2GB RAM with Windows XP PRO SP3 ... so far all is fine

How did you update ???
Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

We had that blue dot long ago and was then thankfully gone. Now it's back? It's annoying as it drives my OCD insane. I have to check notifications just so that blue crap goes away.
-

Some notifications are also senseless. If I check a file in explorer I wind up with the blue dot even though I've already been told that the file is clean.
-
I literally can't install this thing on my laptop. Online installer completes and then NOTHING happens.
EDIT:
WTF is going on? Not even offline installer does anything. But I can't delete avast! files in ProgramData like it's half installed, wtf!?!?!!!
-

Yes I too remember it and was thankful it was gone.
As Bob said some notifications are so trivial as to be pointless. Users are really only interested in serious issues, those that need attention now. If it gets to be serious, then it should be a toaster popup or full blown alert.

I believe this is for Avast Firewall, enabling this makes all connections shut down.
I can confirm this option also appears on Free version of Avast, seems like a bug.

@bob3160,
I tried a second time and it worked.

This morning on my XP PRO SP3 computer "behaviour shield" did not come up enabled. Had to do it manually. Guess this is one of those bugs the programmers just can not locate.

Hi there, is there any workaround to get rid of this annoying issue? I don't know with other OS build, it happens on Windows 10 April Update 1803 (RS4) build 10.0.17134.112

I have tried to fix it as suggested, but it comes again after restart. So far I just ignore it, but it would be better if there is a permanent solution.

I'm beginning to get annoyed by repeating myself in these forums. I have now installed Avast v.18.5.2342 free edition. Update with the offline installer or install via a clean install makes no difference to the issue. Problem is occurring on 2 different Windows 10 Pro version 1803 (OS build 17134.112) 64-bit PCs.
When I perform a Smart Scan, it is checking for Sensitive Data, which is a paid module that I have not paid for. Also the Software Updater component is not being performed in a Smart Scan.
The Sensitive Data problem occurred a while back in v.17.8.2318 and also in v.18.4.2338 which I previously reported. The Software Updater problem is a new problem.
Please can someone advise on how to turn off the Sensitive Data check in Smart Scan and get Smart Scan to run the Software Updater component?
… and in addition, clicking Resolve All after running a Smart Scan often results in a blank (white) Avast user interface. The only way I can fix Avast when this occurs is by rebooting.

Thanks for reply

Hello,
The same problems on my Windows XP SP3, as with version 18.4 and 18.5 betas:
- Avast service does not start!
- and - what follows - UI Failed to load.
I have restored my system from backup to a configuration with working Avast 18.2.
So - I understand - Windows components including services are OK.
Then I have upgraded Avast to version 18.5 - Avast service in this version does not start.
I have also removed previous version with avastclear and made an offline installation of 18.5 - the same problem.
Any ideas what to do next?

I'm having another bluescreens. Something's messed up with these release of Avast :o Please fix it. I never got such bluescreens. Where should I report it? I can send minidumps.
Today Avast Secure Browser installed without my knowledge. But more annoying thing is that it changed my default browser to Avast Secure Browser and it automaticlly autoruns with Windows :o . I've changed it back, but please make it choosable by the user, not to force anyone to use it...
Why it installed on Windows XP despite it's not supported OS? Bug?
Thanks for still supporting Windows XP but fix bugs please

Just finished upgrading AIS to latest version, 18.5.2342. Bug in Avast Shields Control reporting 1 shield inactive now fixed.
Thanks bob3160 for reporting issue with Avast SecureLine Beta being vamoosed and VPN feature in AIS being automatically installed despite using Custom Install and unchecking this before beginning install; Confirmed.
Licensing issue (conflict) between single-use stand-alone beta and paid-for VPN (AIS) still needs to be addressed Cannot run two separate systems online at the same time, one with beta vpn, the other paid vpn.)
As always, did a clean install, never do an over-the-top install or online install.
Nice job.
[EDIT:] Updated second system to latest version.
Only two glitches:- Install for Google Chrome had box already ticked for install
- A file called avastremediation.exe needed to be allowed to run at then end of install
A clean install was also done on this system, allowing Windows Defender to run again between uninstall and install of AIS.

I wish we could disable the blue dot entirely if we choose so. I really don't like it because I then want it gone and I have to open interface and then notifications and clear them and wait the animation to be gone and it's just very annoying for me.

Just updated a computer that had been set aside for awhile. Unused because had the white screen when tried to access the Avast Free Antivirus user interface screen. All other Avast screens are fine. Have the latest version, clean install.
Are there plans to address this problem soon?
Thanks!

Thanks for the update, which I have finally installed. This version runs fine on my Windows XP.
My custom settings were not wiped out. :)
It's nice to see the return of the Quick Scan under "Custom Scans".
It would be useful to be able to deactivate the "Sensitive Data" part of Smart Scan, just as one can deactivate any of the other parts in Settings -> General -> Smart Scan.
Any new features in the Virus Chest are much appreciated, but it would also be useful to be able to rescan files from within the Chest, and to see the return of the "Restore and add to exclusions" option which we had long ago. Are there any plans to restore these features?

I can confirm this option also appears on Free version of Avast, seems like a bug.
I noticed that as well. Please fix.

Software Updater runs fine in Smart Scan for me, but I do have the problem of Sensitive Data being un-turn-offable. The ideas in the thread below did not help me, but they might you:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=219119.msg1467420#msg1467420
Note that the developers are planning to scrap Smart Scan, so these bugs will eventually go away along with it.

latest update won't install on my laptop. it gets through step 1 of 3 then stops.
Try doing a complete uninstall (https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Uninstall-Antivirus-Utility), then reinstall (see "How to install" here (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=219889.msg1466267#msg1466267)).
If you have customized your settings they will be wiped out, so save them first (Menu -> Settings -> General -> Back up settings). After Avast is reinstalled and running correctly, you can restore them.

It would be nice if Avast did what they sort of promised, make sure the last supported version for XP/Vista is bulletproof and this CPU cr4p with 18.8 forces people to go even further back to 18.5 (if they manage to get it).

I am not experiencing any CPU problems on XP with version 18.8.2356. The only trouble is that sometimes Behavoir Shield gets deactivated. But that has not happened for a long time.

You are fortunate as many did.

Yes, I suppose so. They could presumably fix this via microupdate if they wanted to. I did receive "support" after the end-of-life in the shape of the old SafeZone browser suddenly disappearing one day.

I rather doubt a micro update would do it, given that the final version is 18.8, that is the one they need to make bulletproof allowing people to move to the final supported version. Then it would be a case of downloading the full off-line installation file and installing it (whilst on-line).
But I'm not holding my breath. Add to that I have had an unrelated problem with my old XP system, one that I haven't got the time or inclination to find the fault (hardware) and resolve it (cash, which would be better spent on a new system) :)

Until recently I had no problem with 18.8.2356, but in past few days had problem with avastui.exe process rising to 50% of CPU with scvhost.exe taking the remaining 50%. Not a lot of CPU to do anything else.
My experience is posted here:
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=220639.msg1549868#msg1549868
So far I have done:
1) Repair of Avast. -No improvement.
2) Uninstall (using avastclear) and reinstall. -No improvement.
3) Uninstall (using avastclear) again, search and delete all traces of avast on the machine.
Reinstall Avast.
Stopped Microsoft Update (valid still for MSOffice updates, not WinXP)
Only after that has CPU calmed down a bit. AvastUI does peak for a a few mins but dies back afterwards no sustained thrashing as before.
I am now wondering if an earlier version of Avast is better suited to WinXP than 18.8.2356. I can't remember the reason DavidR gave for rolling back to an earlier version. That was some months back. Comments welcome.
Whilst I kept a copy of 18.8.2356 installers, I didn't keep any earlier versions, so advice where a stable earlier version can be downloaded could help.

@Asyn,
Thanks for that link.
I now need to find out from the few other WinXP users remaining on here, which version of Avast may be less problematic than 18.8.2356.

I found I had to go back as far this topics version, anything higher gave the same problems.

@DavidR, by "same problems" do you mean excessive CPU use by Avast?

Yes, got to he point it required a restart to be able to do anything. Pretty well documented in this (big) topic if you are willing to do some reading.

@DavidR, thanks for reply.
18.8 is misbehaving less now after the attention it received, but think I will download 18.5.2342 in case it goes barking mad again.
Yes I will have another read of this (big) thread when I have a few hours spare.

Regarding why this release is recommended over avast's final XP release,
Was it ever determined what caused the High CPU? Was it a problem in the behavior shield?

Just a bit late to revive this resolved topic.

No one really knows as it was never resolved/fixed in 18.8 so how could anyone (avast user) know. All I found was that it was 18.6 and builds up to 18.8 where heavy on CPU usage.
You will need to read the 18.8.xxx release topic to see what was reported there.
But as Bob says a bit late to be revisiting this issue unless you have XP, in which case start on 18.8.xxxx and see if it works on that system.

Thanks for the info. I did install the latest, but only the file and network shields. So far it's working,
but I only use XP for short periods here and there (4-way boot on the same PC, 8.1, XP (2 installs) and Linux)
I was forced into this because the earlier release stopped working on both XP's within a day or two of each other
and was not repairable, I assume it had expired
