the useless notification that I have not turned on my Webcam Shield?!

If your Avast is a "paid for" version you can go into the Menu> Settings (General) and Privacy to disable offers. :)

Have turned off all "offers".  Here is the exact notification I am getting under "Problems & Notifications":  "Webcam Shield is now off  Webcam Shield is not protecting access to your camera."  With the option to turn on the Webcam Shield.  Idiotic me had never explored what happened when clicked on the arrow on the "turn on" box.  Have discovered that gives me the option to ignore this notification and have now ignored that so should be good now.

It's a sales pitch popup to sell a paid product. Since you've now turned off the notifications, it isn't anything you're likely to see again. :)
