Title: Avast labelling mac MRT as an infection??
Post by: REDACTED on September 07, 2018, 07:22:20 PM
Just suddenly getting alerts every 10 seconds since the update.

Infection:macos:genieo-fm [adw]
Process /usr/libexec/xpcproxy
File /System/Library/CoreServices/MRT.app/Contents/MacOS/MRT

I tried doing uninstall instructions on genieo etc but none of the files etc are there. I think avast is the issue.

Anyone else?

Yep, me to.
Started about 3 hours ago - EVERY 10 SECONDS A POP-UP!!

Anybody have a clue how to stop this madness!

I had to disable Avast scanning to stop Avast from repeatedly popping up info that MacOS:Genieo-FM adware was being "locked in the file vault."

I will re-activate it once this is fixed. Please let me know. I am also running OS X 10.13.6

Thanks,

Ron

Hey MisterRon,

How did you stop Avast from scanning?
Where did you find that?

Thanks!!!

Me too. Not sure how to stop it. Don't want to turn off Avast but also reluctant to carry on using my MacBook (2017 edition, latest High Sierra update) until it's sorted.

To turn it off from scanning do you mean turning off the Pop-Ups - "Warnings" & "Alerts"?

Thanks much!!

I shut in the the App Prefernces>Shields>Enable or Disable. With Lukas's notification, I have turned it back on, and all seems well. Thanks!
