Title: genieo false alarm?
Post by: REDACTED on September 07, 2018, 07:42:46 PM
First time poster.

I randomly started getting infection blocked pop-ups every 10 seconds from avast on my MacBook.
The infection has something to do with an app called genieo but I don't have an app called like that but the infection comes from MRT.app wich is apparantly my macbooks internal malware scanner.

Lot's of forum give a tutorial on how to get rid of this malware but I have none of the infected files they tell you to remove.

Is this something I should worry about?
Thanks in advance

EDIT: After a full system scan my avast also reported this file "/private/var/db/uuidtext/69/578DD5D912335886F6685324E90385" as an infection (also supposedly genieo adware)

From Bitdefender  >>  https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/adware-removal-tool.html

Our tool is a free app that quickly eliminates adware from your Mac. The current version detects and removes Genieo and Vsearch.
