Title: Fully Deleting Prior Installation
Post by: REDACTED on October 01, 2018, 11:08:58 PM
I had problems with Avast Security after a High Sierra update so I tried to delete and reinstall.  I did not Uninstall properly and now there are traces of a prior installation that needs to be deleted.  I ran Terminal and got these messages:

Last login: Sat Sep 29 12:23:00 on console
Richards-Mac-mini:~ richard$ ls -la /Library/Application\ Support/Avast/
total 8
drwxr-xr-x   8 root  wheel  272 Sep 24 23:41 .
drwxr-xr-x  27 root  admin  918 Feb  9  2018 ..
drwxr-xr-x  17 root  wheel  578 Sep 24 23:41 config
-rw-r--r--   1 root  wheel    1 Sep 15  2017 display-version.tag
drwxr-xr-x  12 root  wheel  408 Sep 24 23:41 run

drwxr-xr-x   6 root  wheel  204 Sep 24 14:01 update-data
drwxr-xr-x   5 root  wheel  170 Sep 24 23:40 vps9
Richards-Mac-mini:~ richard$ ls -la /Applications/Avast.app/
ls: /Applications/Avast.app/: No such file or directory
Richards-Mac-mini:~ richard$ kextstat | grep avast
Richards-Mac-mini:~ richard$

Can you please help me delete the necessary items so I can reinstall again?

Hello Richard,

you are on the right track. I can see you no longer have the UI nor drivers loaded, so it should be enough to just open Terminal.app and run following command:

rm -rf '/Library/Application Support/Avast'

You should be able to install Avast again after that.

Best regards,

Jakub
