Hello everyone, I had Bullguard preinstalled on my computer and when my free trial ran out I decided to switch to avast. I downloaded Avast free for windows 10, the installation seemed to go ok, sent out the registration/verification, windows gave me a popup so I could change from windows defender to avast. When I opened Avast it seemed to run normally, but had an installation bar that was stuck on 39% and wouldn't change. It said however that my computer was protected. I tried rebooting to see if that would resolve the issue but got an error message telling me not to power down as installation was underway.
Anyway I searched around for some answers and after I downloaded Avast Clear, but before restarting in safe mode and using it Avast came up with a log to report the errors in the installation. Avast seems to be running right and Windows is happy that it is functioning but I was wondering if anyone could advise whether to uninstall and start again or not. I can paste the log in here if it would help.

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!

Then:
1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

I ran the avast uninstall utility following the instructions. I did a quick windows explorer search and still found a bunch of avast related files after the restart, mostly in the Win SxS folder, shouldn't these have been removed? I just want to check before I reinstall Avast

You can ignore it and reinstall Avast.
