Surely the thread title should say 18.7, not 18.8!
I'm still waiting for the first beta of 18.8 to hopefully fix all the bugs with 18.7 on my old XP machine.
You got my hopes up there!

No I don't believe it should as the 18.7.2354 beta was completed and released.

This is just a typo in the text rather than the title, also in the text it also gives the build number of 18.8.4080, note this correctly gives the version as 18.8.

Well I think you may have some issues, given that Avast support for XP and Vista ceases at the end of this month.  I'm not even sure if the 18.8 version update will support XP/Vista or not.

Auto Update thanks.
Repair/Back Up Settings and Restore Settings Still not enabled/working.
Add & Modify Components does work.

"A quick Hot Fix" When might we expect the major Update to v.19?

Yes, that was just a typo - corrected now. Version 18.8 fully supports Vista and XP.

Thanks Karel, good to know.

According to MartinZ "Beginning on December 1, 2018, new Avast/AVG Antivirus products will no longer be delivered for the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.  As customer demand grows for Windows products for Windows 7 and other new versions,  demand for products that support Windows XP and Vista decreases.  In order to receive new feature releases of the Avast/AVG antivirus software, users will be required to update their Windows operating system.

This means that as of  December 2018, existing users on the Windows XP or Windows Vista OS will remain on version 18.7 or older rather than migrating to version 18.8 scheduled to be released in November of 2018. However, please note that all Windows XP and Vista users will continue to receive virus definitions updates from the Avast Threat Labs database after this date and Avast/AVG Antivirus versions 18 and older will continue to work as usual providing full protection,  but will not receive regular automatic updates of new program versions with new features."

Situation has changed. Current situation is that any version 18.x will support XP/Vista, version 19.x not.

Hi Karel, it might help to drop a short line next time, else the update is hard to spot. ;)

Strange, my STABLE version of Avast, offers me this version to update.

Not strange because it has been released on the regular/stable channel, https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=223244.0 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=223244.0).

I really don't like this practice of releasing a beta build to the stable channel and not changing the version number, it just causes confusion.

Agreed, it can be confusing.

Please, some clarification.

The 'Repair' and 'Backup Settings' options found under TroubleShooting still do not function in this beta version which is now the "Stable version"
Am I to assume these options don't function in the Stable version?

Hi, the stable version still uses the old UI, so it should work there.
