Title: Errors after Boot Scan
Post by: chrisjs0115 on November 20, 2018, 12:41:59 PM
I'm sorry if this has been raised before.  I've had a look through the Forum but cannot seem to find the answers I'm looking for.

Following a scam email where I accidently clicked the link.  Though Avast prevented the site from opening I started getting problems.  So I setup my Laptop to do a Boot Scan this morning.  The report shows that I have 3 corrupted files.  As they are not in the Temporary Folder can I delete them?

This is the report.

File C:\ppdf20-s-efgdisbjwazn-web-16415_100\System32\Data1.cab|>vf_virginie_r20_155mrf22_204.B1F21608_624D_44CE_8456_B1D84EF36B7F Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}

File C:\Users\Chris\Downloads 2\Unconfirmed 72788.crdownload|>System32\Data1.cab|>xihund.dmd.A7F98B56_8C28_4B12_B458_CC29747244D1 Error 42127 {CAB archive is corrupted.}

File C:\Users\Chris\Downloads 2\Unconfirmed 72788.crdownload|>System32\Data1.cab Error 42125 {ZIP archive is corrupted.}

If they cannot be deleted how do I repair them?

Thanks for your help.   Chris

Files that can't be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

- Corrupted Archive file, this could simply mean that avast is unable to unpack it to scan the contents of the archive and assuming it is because it is corrupt.

Even if it were corrupt there is nothing that a user can do to resolve any corruption, short of replacing the file. This I wouldn't recommend (especially if this is for archives in the \System Volume Information folder, part of the system restore function) unless you are getting problems relating to that file outside of the avast scan.
