Title: Avast Premier does not detect EICAR
Post by: nelyok7 on December 28, 2018, 02:15:03 AM
Hi all,

I am used to create a standard EICAR.com file to test the real-time File System Shield of the antivirus from time to time, but since some months ago or so Avast Premier doesn't catch up the file anymore as it always did. Has Avast deleted this test file from the sample database for any reason? Or should I be really concerned about the effectivity of the real-time protection of the antivirus? To specify, a right click scanner detects it, but no popup on screen or virus chest isolation as the file is saved in any location. I am a bit worried right now because I'm not completely sure if Avast will detect a threat when in comes upon real malware.

Eicar test file is just a harmless test string made many many yers ago to test AV function.
Lots have happend with AV tech and OS since that time

The file eicar.com, will run on older operating systems, but not on a 64-bit OS.
