Title: Anti-Exploit and Anti-Rootkit Shield's won't turn on
Post by: Oren_Cohen on December 30, 2018, 06:31:59 PM
Hi,

I have Anti-Exploit and Anti-Rootkit Shield's turned off, when I click "TURN ON" nothing happens.
I tried Avast repair but it doesn't help.
How can I solve this issue?

Thanks,
Oren.

You didn't say which paid version of Avast you are using.
You could try the following: Clean Install of Avast:

If you need additional help with the Clean Install, watch this:

As for your procedure, I:

Last thing - after restoring my old settings (I saved configuration file, as mentioned in your procedure) and restart the computer - notifications went back again :-(
So probably it was something old and incompatible that was part of the settings.

I repeated the whole process again, re-configured Avast manually, last restart - and ALL GOOD!!! :-)

Many thanks!!!

Every time Avast introduces a new numerical program update, I uninstall the old and do a clean install as recommended by Bob.

Example:  Old version was 12.3.3154.0 (08/23/2016), new is17.1.3394.0 (02/27/2017).  This procedure is at the minimum standard, changing only to a clean install from version 12 to 17.  Maximum would be a clean install at every program update:  e.g., 17.3.3442.0 (03/28/2017) to 17.3.3443.0 (03/31/2017) to 17.4.3482.0 (05/04/2017), etc., depending on whether the old versions had significant bugs in it.

Otherwise updating via Avast GUI should suffice.

Save the older full executable file just in case!

And avast seems to be the only AV vendor where this is necessary to do to avoid bugs

All other AV i have tried manage to update there programs just fine

I haven't needed to do this with Avast. :) Using the update function from within Avast has always done the job.

This is BS, why do I have to do a stupid three move procedure: Delete, deep clean, and re-install in order to have my Internet Security work ok? This is a class action overdue to happen. Don't know when I might have time to do this process, but if something bad happens Avast's liability goes way up. Lame that AVast freeware deposits malware on your system to keep you from loading important features.
