Title: Web Shield causes Windows 7 (x64) to run very slow
Post by: loungehake on January 01, 2019, 11:04:33 AM
Web Shield causes Windows 7 (x64) to run very slow.  It started a couple of hours after I had replaced version 18.7.2354 and the system then became slower and slower to the point that it was effectively unusable.  I have had to uninstall Web Shield from Avast Free 18.8.2356 to allow the host Windows 7 (x64) system to perform acceptably. The uninstall had to be performed in Safe Mode because it was not possible to persuade Web Shield to uninstall in Normal Mode, it just remained hanging around not shielding but a heavy emcumbrance to the system performance.

I did try a fresh avastclear uninstall then full offline install without success and so resorted to the uninstall of Web Shield in Safe Mode.

N.B. File, Behaviour and Mail Shields work normally.

Since this is the only instance of the problem out of ten installations I have done of version 18.8.2356, I assume that a glitch exists in the offending system. Version 18.7.2354 worked properly, including Web Shield.  I would have reverted to version 18.7.2354 but for the security vulnerability issue with that version. I was too busy having had to do an unplanned 80 mile round trip to get the system running properly.

I am just posting this as feedback for version 18.8.2356.

My impressions of Avast 19 give me much hope that the issue will not reoccur on this problem Windows 7 (x64) system when I install Avast 19 on it.
