Title: Czechs face power emergency...
Post by: rdmaloyjr on July 26, 2006, 01:41:39 AM
looooong link (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsarticle.aspx?type=worldNews&storyid=2006-07-25T174019Z_01_L25195681_RTRUKOC_0_US-WEATHER-EUROPE.xml&src=rss&rpc=22)

I hope this will be over quickly for the people of Europes sake.

I hope this won't effect avast! detection updates.  Without electric power Alwil might  not be able to send updates.

I don't think all the avast update servers are in Czechoslovakia, I think some of them are in the USA.

From what I know it affected only mega-consumers, not the regular businesses/households.

There is no Czechoslovakia. There is now just Czech and Slovakia.
Besides, most of Alwil servers are located in US.

Hi malware fighters,

Prague is now inside the EU, when they see this coming electricity can be transferred from other nets in the Union  that have a surplus. But you have to plan that iwell in advance. If there is a bit of wind the North German region has a lot of extra wind-electricity. But I think it is more of a consumer problem. Start your dish-washer at night, and your washing machines also, because the powerstation cannot turn out the cooling water. I don't see avast team running around with a torch light or cooking on white turps.
But I think the power stations in Europe aren't that old like in CA (established in the thirties of the previous century-with some maintance problems),
