Title: Can we no longer schedule a scan?
Post by: baabel on January 06, 2019, 08:44:22 PM
I have two licensed versions of Avast Internet Security.
On one computer (Windows 7) I just updated the program.
On the other computer (Windows 10) I did not.
I have just noticed that the one I updated has no option to schedule a daily or weekly scan.
The one that I did not update retains this option.
I don't quite understand.
Is Avast Internet Security no longer supporting scheduled scans?

They've 'buried' it...

You need to click on:

Protection
custom scan
click the cog icon next to the 'run a scan' option
click setting,
schedule a scan should be on the left as 'scheduling'

My previously scheduled weekly scans survived the update and ran successfully on both my computers, but no notification was issued on either computer once a scheduled scan had completed..

Done.

We'll see what happens.  I set it to start a week from now as I just ran a full scan manually.

This brings up the next question:  Why is the scheduling option so hidden?

Could Avast feel that scheduled scans are unnecessary in the real-time monitoring of Internet Security?

I would be interested to know.

My question is why are you running scheduled scans ??? Once your system is clean,
Avast checks anything you add or open or change.
I personally may run a scan once a year just for the heck of it. It's never found anything.
I do the same for Malwarebytes and it's never found anything either. :)

That might answer my question.

As to why am I running scheduled scans?   Probably force of habit from decades of running one antivirus or another.

I suspected that the reason the scheduled scan option were not being easily shown was that they were no longer necessary.

My system is indeed apparently clean.  Neither Avast nor Malwarebytes has come up with anything in quite some time.

So basically when you have an antivirus that is constantly "live" then you don't need a scheduled scan?

Is this also true for the free version of Avast which I have on one spare computer?
