Title: Windows Update and Avast Update Together is Almost Fatal
Post by: larrymcg on January 09, 2019, 06:10:55 PM
Win 10 v1803 (with all udates) and Avast 18.8.2356   Many years ago (probably Win XP and an earlier PC) I did a restart with a pending Avast update and a pending Windows Update.  That resulted in having to force the power off and do another restart.  Today I just tried that again thinking that maybe the systems would work better together.  Nope.  After the updates the mouse was dead and the wired keyboard was dead.  Nothing would get the system to move off the initial screen.  So I forced the power off and restarted with success.

Is this a common problem?

Current version of Avast is 19.1.2360
Current release of windows 10 is 1809
I have no problems with both installed on 4 separate computers.

I was not claiming any issue with running both on the same PC.  I claimed that a PC restart with pending updates on both is an issue. The versions are almost irrelevant since I first saw this on Win XP a long time ago.

Maybe you can avoid both happening at the same time by preventing auto updates.
It's probably best to be notified when an update is available that way you control what get updated when.
