Title: Can't start On-Access Scanner !!
Post by: ureca on July 26, 2006, 01:39:24 PM
Hi,

I just installed avast on my workstation (Win XP home). But I jusy can't seem to turn on the On-Access Scanner... neither the "Resident Protection" as a group... nor the individual shields (Network, Internet Mail, Web...) separately. In fact, when I try to start the individual shields, I get the error message "The requested resident task was not found."

Please please help.

Thanks.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn't work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.

Thanks a lot, I tried your solutions, finally re-installed, it seems to be working fine now.
