Title: Downloaded a purchased program and Avast decided to send it for examination
Post by: wpcouture on January 13, 2019, 03:40:10 AM
This morning I purchased and downloaded a program. Win 10 64 bit. When I tried to install it Avast immediately came on captured the program and I got a message saying it was a new kind of program and might have a virus. It said it would send it to some place for review and I should know within 81 minutes if it is ok. This message disappeared .

First this is insidious. I have avast for help, not to control my actions.

I got back to my computer this evening and there was a message on my computer that the program had checked clear. I clicked on it in the browser bar to open and nothing is happening. I went to Task Manager and find that two programs are "suspended" Microsoft Office Click-to-Run and the program I bought. In the status column both say suspended.

I can right-click and end task on both of those warnings and they go away. If I then click on the file in my Win Explorer I get a message that it can't open because it is running in Chrome. I closed my browser, Downloaded it again and when I clicked on it I get a message that it would take 15 seconds to search for problems. When that was done it said that the file is clear and it will open momentarily. Well, that isn't happening.

I go back to Task Manager and it's back in there and "suspended".

Something Avast is doing is making changing something about this program or delaying it in such a way that Windows thinks it is a problem. I don't know how the "suspended" gets there from Windows or Avast.

This is BS and I need to get my program to work. I just canceled my auto-renew and if this doesn't get fixed the whole program will be uninstalled.

I didn't figure out why this happened but I got it working.

I do not like to do a restart in the middle of a problem like this so tried every option I could but finally shut it down last night and restarted it today. Just got back home now and tried to do the software install and everything was normal as it should have been the first time.

I have never had that happen with Avast before and had some concern that it was not Avast that delayed my install.

My days might be numbered with Avast due to this and the incessant trolling me to buy deeper into their system.

Thanks for the offer of help.

Bill

When all else fails, Reboot. That's been a long standing support suggestion. :)

AFAIK, Avast Free is one of the only a/v's offering the same level of protection as paid versions.

Just ignore the ads.
