Title: how do I stop Avast from (automatically) running on macOS?
Post by: er1cnl on January 16, 2019, 11:18:09 AM
hello,

I want to be able to start avast manually and don't want it running all of the time.
but it starts when I startup the computer, yet it is not in the login items.
I can't (force) quit it in Activity Monitor, and I can't find the "Launch at Startup as a Persistent Application" setting as some forums suggest.

thanks,
Eric.

There are several reasons why the Avast AV needs to run.E.g. real time protection aka shields or regular updates of virus definitions. Disabling any of these is highly unrecommended. But you can, of course, switch all shields off in Preferences. And use AV for on-demand scans only.
