Title: Windows Index Experiance scanner on Windows 7 not working under Avast 19.1.2360
Post by: gladuak49 on January 19, 2019, 08:07:46 AM
On two Windows 7 computers receive the message when doing a WEI performance scan- Could not measure storage performance. Error: Failed to properly assess the disk. The parameter is incorrect. When I remove Avast Free build 19.1.2360, Virus Definition Ver. 190118-6 I am able to run WEI Performance Scan with no errors. Is anyone else having the same problem?

i cant confirm that avast is causing this issue

when i try to run the assessment i get the error in the log file

storage\diskprof.cpp:0283: Error: Failed to properly assess the disk.
The parameter is incorrect

when i uninstall avast (version 19.5.2378 (build 19.5.4444.503))
i can run the assessment. so can you please look into why avast is causing this issue

Posting in an old topic really makes no sense. If you have a problem, start your own topic and
provide as much information as possible.

i have to disagree.

topic is only 5 months old, and still relevant to avast version, so why start a new topic when this one exists and no one has responded to?
all the info is in the post.

windows 7 machine
using 160gb intel 520 ssd drive.
when you run the windows experience index, it fails with the error message relating to the HDD.
as soon as you uninstall Avast it runs ok.

if you install kaspersky free antivirus WEI run ok.

so there is a issue with Avast and how it attaches itself to the Operating system.

on a side note, can the website operators get rid of these verification images, they are very difficult to see.

i can confirm that this seems to be a issue with version 19. (19.5.2378 (build 19.5.4444.503))
i've  tried to WEI on another win 7 computer using a Samsung evo 850 ssd, and the same error comes up.

Avast team can you please fix this issue up.

Well...this is definitely a problem with avast..I had just done a complete reinstall of windows 7 professional 64bit and was having the same error. I have spent days searching forums and trying different and some very complex fixes. when I found this thread, I uninstalled avast and it fixed the problem!

I found out how to fix it! First go to the explorer/file viewer then press down Left ALT Then you see a thing pop up, click tools then folder options then go to view then click Show hidden files folders and drives, click Ok now open the performance window then click adjust indexing options you'll now get a popup, you will now see advanced and modify, click modify then expand C: Disk then expand program data then check microsoft then click ok, then click Advanced then rebuild and then run the test again and it will probaly work, this method worked for me and dont ask.. I figured this out myself.

A few months more and it still doesnt appear to have been addressed. I have been using Avast for a good decade+. This is literally the first time I have had an issue with it. Its one thing to have some bugs, heck many of us run MicroSoft products... But at least acknowledge them and put out a fix or at least a workaround. Uninstalling, running Avast Clear and then working through a re-install reminds of the garbage I went through having to remove Norton Antivirus from computers.

I appear to be experiencing this same issue with AVG antivirus. I cloned my main HDD the other day to an SSD of the same size to which I now boot and after re running the Windows Experience utility I get this same error message can't access drive and parameter incorrect. Still searching for a solution.
