Title: ashWebSV.exe and xfilter.dll conflict
Post by: klog on July 28, 2006, 09:54:55 PM
Hi all,
I see quite a few posts RE a conflict between ashWebSV.exe and xfilter.dll, causing ashWebSV.exe to shut down.
I am experiencing this.
Anyone know if there has been a solution found?

Thanks much,
Kevin

xfilter.dll is part of a internet content filter proxy.
If you want to block certain sites/contents,
I suggest you use the build in options in your browser or get something that has proven to work very well, like NetNanny.
You can also use your hosts file to block domains/sites.

If you are using filesclab firewall ?

If so http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22165.msg184249#msg184249 you may have to get an update or switch firewalls.

Hi David & Eddy,

Yes, I read those posts.  It is actually a Fisecab issue seemingly, though I was hoping that somehow Avast had worked it out with them. I have an email into Filsecab for a week now, but haven't heard from them.
They had a fix, supposedly, that there is a link to in one of the Avast forum posts, but that link is no longer working. It goes to their normal download page, and the individual fix is not listed.
I do like their Firewall, or at least I have gotten to know it.
As a work-around, that "seems" to work, at least as far as I can tell, I made a shortcut to ashWebSV.exe and put it on my quick-launch. When ashWebSV.exe stops running, I just relaunch it, without rebooting.
Seems to work fine.
So for the time being, I will happily live iwth it.
Cheers, and thanks for your help.
All the best,
Kevin

No problem, welcome to the forums.

Net Start "avast! Web Scanner" with the quotes in a batch file should also work in restarting the web shield service.

Contents WebShieldStart.bat
Net Start "avast! Web Scanner"
"C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe"

I'm not sure if you could get away without the second line. If your way also starts the service no problem.
