Hello, I use Firefox my default broswer, and I just recently updated it to version 66.0 (64 bit).
I noticed when I went to go online, the Avast Online Security Browser Extension showed that the automatic blocking of trackers was disabled, so I clicked More Settings and re-checked the things that were previously unchecked (the do not track boxes), afterwhich I clicked Save, and everything was A-OK.
After I was finished, I closed the page I was on.
When I went back in awhile later, the same thing occurred, and I had to do the same thing all over again.
I'm not sure what to do so I don't have to keep repeating the same process over & over again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I wanted to add that I also posted on the Mozilla Firefox Support forums, and they gave me this link:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save
I was also told that if that doesn't fix the problem, to contact Avast support.
So, we shall see what happens...
BTW, I DID try uninstalling and re-installing Firefox, but that didn't help. So, I'll see what happens when I try the above.
-
I'm having this exact same problem, if anyone has a fix I'd appreciate it
The firefox link only seems to be helpful for the settings of firefox itself, not its addons
-
It's still doing the same thing with the newest version of Firefox, 66.0.1.
I know there's the option of refreshing Firefox, as it mentions in that link I posted, but, I am wondering if this might be an Avast-related issue, and not necessarily a Firefox-related issue?
And you're right, wizzlbang, the link doesn't mention anything about fixing problems with add-ons/extensions, so I haven't tried any of those suggestions from that link. Hmmm....
-
I am having the identical problem described above.
Note: I've seen this issue crop up occasionally in the past, but as soon as I changed "Automatic blocking of trackers" back to "Enabled", the "Enabled" setting persists after I close and relaunch Firefox. Right now, the "Enabled" setting does NOT persist after close/relaunch.
Edited to add: I use Firefox 66.0.1 on Win 7 SP1, Avast Web Plugin 18.4.140
-
I'm also using windows 7, if that's relevant
-
Still experiencing the problem. Still waiting on a response, hopefully with a fix or estimated date when fix will be available. Thanks.
-
Same here, still waiting for a response/fix, as I, too, am still experiencing this issue. I use Windows 7, and I have Firefox's latest version installed, 66.0.2.
-
I'm having same issue with automatic blocking not staying enabled, though I'm not sure if it's related to Firefox updates.....
-
Still having the same issue, and have the newest versions of Firefox (66.0.3, 64 bit) and Avast (19.4.2374--build 19.4.4318.439).
-
the issue has suddenly gone away for me, possibly with an update to avast online security
-
Unfortunately, Avast Browser Security and Web Reputation Plugin still starts as "Disabled" after updating Avast app + plugin a few minutes ago. Had to manually select "Enable".
I use Firefox 66.0.3 on Win 7 SP1, Avast Program Version 19.4.2374 (build 19.4.4318.451), Avast Web Plugin 18.4.140,

Thank you for reporting this to Avast, as I am still experiencing the same issue. My Avast is up to date, as is Firefox, and also the plug-in. I don't know how to capture screenshots, otherwise I'd add one in with my reply here.

Avast appear to be aware of the problem. They are currently beta testing a new extension.

I just wanted to post that I noticed the Extension has been upgraded to version 19.1.212, and it is staying enabled after I go out of Firefox and go back in later on. Thank you so much. :) :)

Thanks for the feedback. :)

I can also confirm after update to version 19.1.212 that the web extension remains enabled after Firefox is launched and the URL data has finished loading. Thanks. :)

Hello, I know that there was an update to Avast!, and I updated it last night.
This morning, when I went to go into Firefox (version 66.0.5, 64 bit), the Avast Online Security Browser Extension was disabled, and I had to, like last time, manually enable the things that were disabled (the do not track boxes), afterwhich I clicked Save, and everything was A-OK.
After I was finished, I closed the page I was on.
When I went back in awhile later, the same thing occurred, and I had to do the same thing all over again.
This was just like the other time when it occurred.
Is anyone else having the same problem again?
Avast! version 19.5.2378, build 19.5.4444.439, and as I mentioned earlier, I have Firefox 66.0.5, 64-bit.
Also, virus definition: 190521-0, and plug-in extension is 18.3.24.

Hi guys, the latest version of AOS in Firefox store is 19.1.212 - seems the AV update did install an old version.

If you have the old version as I did, you need to remove it from the Firefox add-ons.
Once removed, go to https://www.avast.com/avast-online-security (https://www.avast.com/avast-online-security) and install the latest version.
Once done, this is what you'll see:

Thanks Bob, already up to date. :)

I had AOS disable every time I restarted my PC using Chrome.
No big deal, I simply checked it on restart and enabled it.
I have had Chrome updates and Windows 10 updates recently
and for a considerable time now, AOS has remained enabled after
restart. I am probably talking of about 2 weeks.
My AOS is version 19.1.212. it is an extension completely separate from Avast AV,
which in my case is the FREE version. Avast AV and AOS are not linked on my PC.

You don't need Avast AV in order to use AOS. :)

I was simply saying that I had the disable problem with AOS on Chrome, but it went away
and is consistently OK now at enabled.
I have closed my Firefox browser many times and there have been several Firefox and Windows 10 updates.
AOS has remained enabled throughout.
Avast AV Premium has AOS included in it as a protection option.
Avast AV FREE does not have AOS included and an independent extension is necessary.

Well Bob that screenshot sure says AOS is included in the FREE version - thanks.
But that screen does not appear on my FREE version, which is why I am sticking to what I said.

All my updates do is update what is already there and AOS is not.
I suspect upgrade could include AOS, but that is not free.

Then Bob there are TWO free versions - yours and mine. Yours with AOS and mine without AOS.
Can you remember the download link you used so I can try it.
Does your version have the same details as I showed in my screenshot ?

Hi, as soon as Bob reboots, he'll have the same version.
Thanks Asyn. Frankly I did think that the options including AOS were far too
many for the free version. Mine is bang up-to-date and was installed from an Avast site
last December. I have rebooted many times.

Thanks Asyn, that is a brilliant link and superbly explanatory.
It explains the AOS inclusion/exclusion perfectly and should benefit many users.
My confusion is now settled.

You're welcome.

Before I leave this interesting thread, I would emphasise the following -
1. Avast AV free does apparently include "Security Browser extension".
See - top item, second column -
(https://i.imgur.com/MI5NGvw.jpg)
2. All I can say is that it cannot be the same as my AOS extension.
3. If I disable my AOS, the Adware tracking cookies flood in.
4. IF the Security Browser Extension was the same as AOS, this would not happen.
5. Conclusion - Avast AV free does not include the Avast Online Security extension.
-
Hi wittmann44,
The "Security browser extension" is the AOS extension.
If this component is selected, the AOS extension should be installed into your browser by Avast Free. If you have already manually added AOS to your browser, a second copy of AOS will not be added by the Avast free application.
This is the reason why the "Adware tracking cookies flood in" when you disable AOS - there is no second extension providing the same features; AOS and the "Security browser extension" are the same extension, and there will be no functionality if you disable the extension. Avast Free will not re-activate the extension if you have disabled it in Chrome.
You can test this by completely removing the AOS extension from Chrome (not just disabling it), then uninstalling the "Security browser extension" component in Avast Free (by de-selecting it in the add/remove components screen and clicking the "Change" button), then installing the component again. The AOS extension will then be added to Chrome to Avast Free.

Your post sounded so logical that I tried it.
I removed Security Browser Extension from Avast Free. I removed AOS from Chrome. I re-entered Security Browser Extension into Avast Free. I rebooted my PC.
Answer = NO AOS or Security Browser Extension icon appeared.
Conclusion = Sticking to what my previous post said - Security Browser Extension and AOS are not the same and Avas Free does not put an Security Browser Extension icon on my screen
No more time to waste on this, my combination of Avast Free plus AOS works perfectly.
Following the rule of if it works OK - don't fix it.

Bob, it was said that a URL bar icon would appear if the Secure Browser Extension was enabled and the AOS deleted.
It did not. That is not disbelieving, that it is proving.
