Title: SecureLine VPN VERY SLOW
Post by: physicsboy on March 30, 2019, 09:56:35 PM
since upgrading to the latest version my secureline vpn is VERY slow - in prior testing it had about a 10% impact on speed - ow it's 50% or worse.  It's unusable, so I no longer use it.  Anyone else seeing this?

No issue here.
Speed depends on a number of overlying circumstances: Server chosen, time of day, high or low useage at the time and also your local setup. :)

I've noticed around a permanent 30-50% decrease in speed recently with the london p2p server

Hello

Im new on this forum and I feel also really sad when I use my VPN, speed goes down around 50% !

I've noticed that the speed of the VPN ist blocked a 100mbits/s

Excuse its in french but its easily understandable.

Anyone has an idea to change this 100mbit/s in 1gbit/s ??

Thank you

Hi Mika5499,

How fast an internet connection will be will depend on the capabilities and design of the network driver in use.  Avast uses the one indicated, and it would likely have to be upgraded to run at 1gbits/s.  As things stand now, avast SecureLine TAP Adapter v3 is what it is.

Which, is likely why both you and the OP, are reporting a 50% drop in connection speed over non-VPN network connections.

But that information is missing in physicsboy's original post.  Because of that missing information, rather difficult to pinpoint the cause without it.

I'm using an older system where the max speed is 100mbits/s, so the drop in speed is really not noticeable, but it is still there.  If you are running 1gbits/s, and running a faster network setup than I have, then you would see a greater drop than I.

What i've noticed is that if you download a large amount your isp may limit your speed even though you are using vpn. Your vpn may even refuse to connect if you download a lot.

Usually several hours of not downloading will resolve this issue, but that's the main cause of speed decrease i found when first using the vpn.

Yes I've had to cancel my Avast VPN because it was so slow it was unusable. A shame because I am a huge fan of Avast products.

I also noticed this, unfortunately, but I don’t use another service yet, I think everything will work out.

My experience is similar to Mchain's.
Most Server locations are fine, with minimal speed reduction for me here in Canada.
If I choose a 'distant' server,(not the Optimal Server, Seattle) for example 'Republic of Singapore' the speed reduction is quite a bit slower.

I'm currently capped/throttled to 22 mbps when without my vpn i am at 120 mbps. Absolutely not cool.

That is with any vpn server. My ips is virgin media.

I have the same problem. Without SecureLine connected, I am running over 200Mbps. With it connected, I am running less than 20Mbps. That is completely unacceptable for a modern VPN service.

Worldwide, many people are working/learning/communicating from home (Covid-19) right now.
This will most probably lead to much higher server loads than usual and slow down connections.

Bonjour,

Asyn de quel serveur parlez vous ? du serveur VPN ? j'ai 700 Mbps VPN désactivé et 100 Mbps VPN activé, je ne pense pas que le nombre de personnes plus importantes connectées à cause du Covid 19  en soit la cause...

That said, when using a third party VPN, there is not such a big drop as with avast secureline, where the bandwidth seems to be divided by 10.
